Should I go back to stock?

What do you think. Maybe I just have grass is greener on the other side syndrome. Unfortunately I don't have any really pics of my stock wheels when the tires were actually glossed up...

Well, after seeing those pics side by side I think I made up my mind. I don't know what I was thinking...what do you all think?

I think your current wheels project a "stock look" without being the boring 93+ wheel style. To anyone who doesn't know MR2s, they would probably think you just have really nice stock wheels

With that said, I would stick with what you have. The 93s look very "chunky" compared to the lines of the rest of the car

Yeah, borbet makes very stock-looking wheels. The only problem is that they are kind of heavy.

so then use the borbet's for daily driving since they look better and then use the stockers for autox or whatever

That sounds like an excellent option Allow you to throw a nice set of competition or summer tires on the 93s for those "spirited" days

I don't have my stockers anymore...sold them. I keep summer tires on my borbets anyway.

True, I've always liked the more refined 'stock' look of Borbet wheels which is the look I think you've achieved.

As for weight, TOYOTA stockers aren't that light at 20+ pounds. Even the pre '93 stockers are heavy at over 18lbs, for a 14" wheel that's heavy. Borbets are just average in the weight department.

are you sure about those figures? IIRC, both sets of stock wheels are quite a bit lighter than what you project them to be

Yes, I stand corrected. Here's more detailed specs, 93+ wheel quote is rather unofficial but wasn't disputed on IMOC so who knows if it's right or not. Both wheel sizes are too heavy for their width, IMO.

For pre '93 wheels

91-92 Alloy 14x6 16.5 lbs
91-92 Alloy 14x7 19.3 lbs

from:
http://web.mitsi.com/autocross/faq.html

For '93 wheels

sailorman said: "I weighed my stock 93 7" rear and was 17 lbs with the plastic cap and valve stem."

Make it a fairer comparison.... put tire shine stuff on the stock tires too. Faded tires ruin any car.
