Hello this is my write up to my new subwoofer install and later on overhaul of my audio system. My previous system was:
Battery: Optima Red Top Head Unit: JVC KD-G720 Sub Amp: Power Acoustik 380W x2 Bridgeable 2 ohm stable Front: Sony 4.5" triaxials and OEM tweeters Rear: JBL 4.5" Coaxials and 1" tweeters mounted on B-Pillar above seat belt Subwoofer: 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch 8" 4 ohm wired in parallel for 2ohm load mounted in .323 in^3 sealed boxes. This setup has lasted me the last year quite well with the only weak point being the boxes. The boxes due to their small size made the air spring very stiff causing them to over exert. This I believe plus my never ending quest to be loud lead to my subs demise. So as I promised myself when I bought those subs, I have decided to upgrade to a single 10" sub. My choice is an Alpine Type R 10" 4ohm DVC. I chose this sub because it is predicted to perform most admirably in the box I have designed. It reaches down low and is able to get very loud. After my sub install I hope to redo my system again looking to have a very nice sound system when all is said and done. My future setup so far looks like: Battery: Same Head Unit:Sony MEX-BT2500 Front Amp: The one being used as my sub amp currently Sub Amp: Rockford Fosgate - 1000W Class BD Mono Amplifier Front speakers: Dayton DA175-8 7" Aluminum Cone Woofer Dayton ND20FA-6 3/4" Neodymium Dome Tweeter Rear speakers: current front triaxials and current rear tweeters Subwoofer: Alpine SWR-1042D in a .89 in^3 ported box tuned to 35.88 Hz So now that we have the entire background done I'll continue to the sub and the enclosure. I designed the enclosure and calculated the numbers using WinISD which can be found HERE. The box is designed to be mounted on the passenger side as the ports are offset towards the center of the car. I drew everything in Google Sketch-Up. If there any other views or data that you would like don't hesitate to ask. Here are detailed specs of my planned box. Vented Box - Alpine SWR 1042D Volume = .89 in^3 (after Displacment) Tuning = 35.88 Hz (at 58 degrees F, 10% humidity and one atmosphere) Width = 19" Height = 16" Depth = 10" Mounting Depth = 6 3/16" (measured from top opening to back wall) Port Area = 18.85 in^2 Port Description = 6 ports of 7" each constructed out of PVC. Externally made and plumbed through storage box and vented into the cabin. F3 = 31 Hz Calculated using = WinISD Pro Alpha Driver specs are here. I'll keep you updated as tomorrow I'll be back to school and have access to the materials and tools to start building the box. |
