mr2 seats reupholster or not?

My mr2 turbo seats are pretty ruff and uncomfotable even with the seat covers on. So I was wondering if I got them reupholstered with new cushions if they would be more comfortable? If not im justgoing to throw some dif seats in. CAuse when I got the car I drove it from NC to ATL GA and it was RUFF!

You can get them reupholstered. If you want comfort, get memory foam

Memory foam would be great in the seat and back! I think my stock seats are very comfy. Made my drive from Kentucky to Arizona a dream. I wish I had swede inserts though. Too much sliding around on the stock leather. I believe I saw someone selling new leather skins on ebay with swede inserts for our seats. Check it out.

See I never road in another mr2 so Idk if my seats suck just cause they are so worn out or what. Thats why im asking. I love the wya the look though. But yeah if I get my seat redone im going to take it to a rep. company near me. Not order off the net. I been screwed o manytimes on things like that. I wouldl ike to see someone finish product first then decide if they are the ones I want to go with or w/e

leatherseats.com have kits you can buy to reupholster your seats yourself. Very nice quality kit. I put foam in when I reupholstered mine with their kit. They had a group buy a little while ago. Not sure if they still do, but definitely worth checking out.

They are comfy as hell. I drove 16hrs in 1 day to see a Pearl Jam/Tom Petty concert in Denver. Comfy as all hell. My accord, after about 45min my back hurts. The stock seats rock, stick w/ em .

+1 on Stock seats. Better than having to get custom sliders and aftermarket. More money than reuphostering as well. Memory foam is very ass friendly.

Yeah, my MKII seats are a little rough around the edges too. When I reupholstered my old Supercharger seats I had them put in new cushions and they reshaped the seats nicely, no more saggy look. Expensive option though, but worth it because the stock seats are comfy & safe.

I slide around during trackdays bad enough with cloth, I'd love to see what the typical cost is to have the driver's seat redone in cloth on a Mk2

Well my friend who ownes a autoshop in woodstock knows a guy who ownes a upholstery shop lol. But he has good deals. So im going to check him out. He was going to redo the front and back leather seat in my friends 1990 turbo supra with perferated leather and all for 600. So hopefully just 2 fronts wont cost as much

Mine cost me about $750 and that included new foam, but I know I can get cheaper the second time around - quality was top-notch.

My original MK1 seats were leather (destroyed by a dripping T-top, thank the stars for H/Ts) but I re-upholtered them in cloth 'cause I ain't a fan of leather either.

Hmm the black leather with swad center and red stitching from leatherseats.com seems pretty freaking cool. I might go that route

I do custom upholstery work, so I'll give you my 2 cents. I used to do custom upholstery work at one of the top custom upholstery shops in the area. Most shops in the area referred people to us. I've done custom sow interiors and stitched everything from seats to shift boots, you name it.

I don't care for leatherseats.com. I've seen a lot of pictures of them installed, and I don't like the way they fit up, and I don't like some of the stitching on some of the covers I've seen. Not all leather is created eqaul, and I haven't seen their leather in person, so I can't tell you what I think of that.

I am not a huge fan of pre-stitched covers, but as far as pre-stitched covers go, I'd go Katzkin over leatherseat.com or Classic Soft trim. They have decent leather, and the stitching is pretty good. They fit up nice too. A lot of OEM's use Katzkin when you buy a new car at the dealer and selection the "leather" option.

As for Suede. There are only a few qaulity suedes out there. Cheap suedes suck, they wear quickly, tear easier and bleed. Don't go cheap on suedes, you'll regret it. For a good wayt o tell wear resistance, ask for the double rub count using the Wyzenbeek Test method. There are 2 types of ducts they for this test...a cotton duct and wire screen. The wire screen is more abrasive, so you have to keep that in mind when seeing the numbers.

As for re-wrapping the seats. If the foam is worn, you can have the foam on the seat re-built. If the foam is in good shape, you can always use contact cement and add in 1/4"-1/2" onto the cushion to add cushioning.

The MR2 seats are actually very comfy IMO. If they are worn and the foam is ripped, that might be why. In the end it's up to you. If you like them re-upholster them and add so cushioning, if you want. If you hate them, you can put something else in. I hope I was some help.

Yeah that was very helpfull thanks. Yes my seat are torn up on the bottom like hell. Almost like some dumb ass to a knife to it lol. Do you know where to get these memory foam pads they are talking about eckoman?
