You can check around with companies like JC Whitney, Jegs, Summit,etc.. It all depends on your needs. Weight of the product,heat reduction and sound deadening, paint it on the body, lay down a mat, or just get some jute to put under the carpet. And the biggest, how much do you want to spend?

All the reading I have done says basically to stay away from the asphault products and stick to the 100% butyl rubber mats. If you do that I think its probably just a matter of finding a price you like, as I suspect they are all pretty similar.

Ashphat adds weight to thin metal therefor the resonance frequency is change, thats all.There are much better products. Car manufacturers use it because its easy and cheap on a production line.
You need to dampen and deaden |

Do a search on the board for QuietCar. It's a liquid, much easier to apply than trying to put dynamat on.

I've used fatmat on my old MR2, and also used the foam type padding stuff that you have to apply adhesive to on my old 4Runner. I'm thinking about experimenting with this new stuff we carry now to see how well it really performs: Cascade VB-1S PRO Quiet Kote Damping Spray

Well l didnt dynamat my car , as im a chemist and designed my own liquid sound deadening. Water based liquid is the best for deadening. But the right one !

I've had 6 bulk packs of Dynamat Extreme in my show vehicle for years. I covered every square inch. I can't tell you how good the other "similar" brands are as I've never used them, but it is easy to install and will hold up on up fine. Roof, floor pan, trunk lid, doors, doesn't matter. As long as you use a good roller to put good pressure on the pieces and make sure there's a good contact seal when you install them, and as long as you prep the surface right, IE clean it with good cleaner and a good wax and grease remover, you'll be ok. It's a great product, works very well. If you go with a Dynamat or Dynamat type product, go with Dynamat Extreme or similar, not Original. It will hold up better, especially on tough surfaces like a roof or trunk lid.
I used a few other products in there too. Another product that I used in conjunction with Dynamat is called Super Insulator. I get it from my wholesaler, so I don't know where you could get it. It's an water/heat (thermal insulation)/acoustical (sound) barrier material, so it'll help keep outside road noise out, quiets the cabin and keeps stereo noise in. This product does not replace Dynamat Extreme. It would be similar to dynaliner or extremeliner in it's purpose. You need to spray contact cement to use this though, and a good contact cement is a must. Most of the spray can contact cements out there suck. Last edited by eckoman_pdx; 05-05-2008 at 05:57 AM.. One advantage worth noting that Dynamat Extreme (not Original Dynamat) has over quiet car is the fact that is has an R4 insulation value. It helps reflect heat in the summertime and helps keep the interior cooler, and helps keep cold out in the winter. A spray on product like Quiet Car is a sound dampening material, but like Original Dynmat it doesn't offer the above. Now I fully realize not everyone cares about that, but for those that do, it is an advantage worth noting

I used Quiet-car and I wil use it again in the 2. The last time I used it it was in a Ford Escape. The difference because of the volume of space in that vehicle was night and day. Im hoping that it works as well in the 2. I plan on doing the entire interior as well as getting some into the door panels as well. Buy the sprayer, its worth the money.
***UPDATE****05/14/09 OK well it took a while, (Life gets in the way) But I began soundproofing the 2 with Quiet-car. Since I had done this before, I planned a little better this time. Since I had my door panels apart while swapping out my OEM front speakers, I decided to soundproof the inside of the outter door skins. I own the power sprayer from my first time using Quiet-Car, so I pulled the plastic dust guards off the the inner door skin, washed the inside of the door with a soapy cloth, and sprayed every inch I could reach. The results from shutting the door alone are immediate. It completely takes away the resonance from the sheet metal. As soon as I receive my new Tang Band Subs I will continue to soundproof around the rear firewall as well as the floor pans and front firewall. So far, I could not be happier with the sound deadening of this product! I swear by it! Last edited by NJMR2Fan; 05-13-2009 at 05:51 PM.. Reason: UPDATED |

The nice thing with Second Skin is that it can be repositioned. It takes an hour or so for the butyl rubber to setup and really hold. This really helped when I was doing the outer skin of the door panels where there is very little room to work. {as attested to by all the cuts on my hands}
The specs are the same as Dynamat Extreme. Second Skin actually upgraded my first 10ft^2 order to Damplifier Pro. I ordered a second 10ft^2 and got regular Damplifier. |

finally installed my quiet car that ive had for months and months.
used less than the full quart, maybe 8/10th's of it. just the doors and upper window seal (hey the trim was off anyway, i just went to town ).AMAZING difference. huge, massive reduction in noise. its almost weird how quiet it is now, like driving in a sealed off capsule.. and thats just a quart. i might use the other quart, but theres always a point of diminishing gains. i also have used the alu backed asphault paper, and this is MANY MANY MANY times easier to install.. im never messing with any paper ever again, not even remotely worth it.
