Would you guys be interested in...?

Would you guys be interested in a group buy for our new custom subwoofer enclosures + the subwoofer already loaded? I'm thinking this might be a good way to get the community more familiar with our new enclosures and get you guys some really great deals on a loaded enclosure.

???

For the subwoofer, I'm testing a few different ones this week to compare price & performance and see what really performs well, sounds clear, and is still a good price so that I can get you guys a great group buy price.

I don't know about the others, but I have no interest in a pre-loaded sub box. Others might be though if it were a decent sub. I've built cars that where sound competition level before, so as a stereo guy I am picky about my stereo stuff.

Will you take measurements with a 30 band RTA ? Show the effects of the output with closed car then with windows open ,TEE TOP off ?
There is more to car audio than just prefabing a box and putting subs in it. Do you know the transfer function of the cabin ?

Although I think all of that would be nice and informative. I think you are missing the point here that this is to be a cost effective and "good" solution, not a pro-audio top of the line solution. There is obviously a price to be paid for the type of setup you are referring to and that is not the price 90% of the people are willing to pay for. For the 10% that ARE willing to pay for that type of a setup, a pre-packaged solution is the last thing that they want, because every single component of their system will be hand picked to match their goals.

For the remaining 90% of the people that want something that fits, leaves maximum seat travel/reclining space, has a nice solid subwoofer that performs well in the space that is allowed and doesn't require them to pay a months salary for their setup..... well, thats what this group buy is for

Well yes i agree with you but given the electrical and mechanical measurements of speakers are different each box will have a different sound. So best to list the subs that would work withe the volume of air available. Also amp recommendations with regards to power , inbuilt crossover etc......
Im stupped that no one has done a aperiodic membrane or just put 4 focal 5 inch subs in the stock location with no interfence with the cablin ?

baktasht, I am sure you've thought of this, but just list the internal dimensions of the box and the internal volume. It wouldn't be too hard for to figure that out, and that's enough info for most people looking for a pre-fabbed box. With that info, it's not hard to see decent sub choices for the box as long as they have the sub specifications (which aren't hard to get).

That was the first step before I even started looking at subs to test

Just to give you guys an update. I've tried 14 different subwoofers that I thought would be good candidates from with the amount of room we have to work with. Out of these there is one that outperforms all the rest of them. There are 2 more subs I am waiting on to come in today. After that I'll be posting the group buy along with details.

One thing that I can tell you for sure is that with the setup that we'll be selling you will only need one enclosure/subwoofer, unless you just want to have your stereo so loud that the neighbors two streets away hear you driving by. In that case, you can get two sets This is perfect not only because it's less wiring, but also because it will allow you to mount the subwoofer/enclosure behind the passenger seat, leaving room for you to mount your amplifier, capacitor, crossovers, and any other accessories behind the drivers seat. This means you no longer have to "find" space for these in the "frunk", trunk, or under the seats, all of which are areas where amplifiers tend to overheat.

So... with that said. I'll have the details and group buy posted for you guys later today.

Would it be possible to recommend Amps that would comply with good performance and dimensions that would fit nicely in our 2?

I know performance is very subjective to everyone's personal taste. It seems that with your recommended subs, you are slightly targeting individuals who aren't that picky when it comes to audio but yet, want a overall nice sounding system without breaking the bank.

Yes, I can make some recommendations for amplifiers. I might even be able to source one that is a good match to include as an option. I'll have a look and see what I can find.

That seems like a small volume for a 10 inch driver given thats it sealed. If you take away the displacement of the basket and magnet which would be roughly 0.1 cubic foot your left with 0.6 cubic feet. Does any one you know have TERM PRO to show frequency responce of drivers with this volume? Im sure itwill help with their driver selection

I missed that when I looked at it, thanks! Do you happen to know the depth of the inside of the box?

Internal Volume wise, that box isn't too small for 10" subs in a sealed enclosure. It might not be optimal for your needs, but it should work for the average MR2 owner looking for a pre-fabbed box for an easy sub install.

The driver displacement (VDD) of Phoenix Gold's Xenon line 10D2 (10", DVC, 2 ohm) subs was .12ft3

If the enclosure is .71 cubic feet (ft3), including the VDD it has a .59 ft3 internal volume. Considering the manufacture recommended box size (Phoenix Golds recommendations) for those subs is .42 ft3 for SPL and .85 ft3 for SPL (boxes lines with 1"-3" of polyfill), that sub box is right within the correct range for that sub. It might not be the optimal size for what you are using the sub for, but as far as a pre-fabbed box it's with-in range internal volume wise. It would work, assuming the box is deep enough for the sub (it's a deep sub).

The PG Z-Rated 10D2 and 10D4 subs have a VDD of .10 ft3. So .71 ft3-the VDD = .61 ft3 including vdd. That's actually bigger than the Phoenix Gold recommended box size for that sub. The give the range of .3 ft3 for SPL apps up to .5 ft3 for musical (SQ) apps (boxes lined 1-3" with polyfill). The box is actually a little big for the manufacture specs on that 10" sub, not too small.

I had 10 in stock and sold out Yesterday. I'll get the mounting depth measurement for you on Friday when my next shipment comes in. I think its something around 6.25", but I'll measure to get you an exact number.
