S2000 starter button - it all works, but it doesn't!

Installed an S2k engine start button on my Mk2 over 2 years ago. It worked fine.

Had a Turbo conversion 1 year ago and it worked fine after that too.

I dislodged a wire when fitting my Blitz turbo timer some time back and tried to connect it back again yesterday.

I have tested EVERYTHING on my meter -

Constant live from ignition barrel = 12v
Starter motor reading on key turn = 12v
Earth = Provides 12v reading when used with above

Relay between loom and S2k button

Switched live to power switch = 12v
Earth to switch = Provides 12v reading when used with above
Wire to relay = good continuity.

Relay clicks when I apply 12v to switched power terminal.

Whats going on!!!???!!!????

Im sure the Blitz loom I connected for the Turbo timer is not causing a problem as it is only a wiring loom that sits between the main ignition harness and takes feeds off whilst allowing signals to pass through as usual.

Any ideas VERY much appreciated!

How do you mean pinched mate?

All the wires are free and connections are tight.

Totally stumped!

If I remember correctly something had to be resoldered on the PCB for it (or maybe just the lighting) to work. Could it be some problem there?

The PCB of the button?

As I said, it was installed and working fine for over a year. Cant understand why it has just stopped working unless it has something to do with the Turbo Timer.

I tested that when I pushed the button with the key on acc position it sent 12v to the relay and it did, so button seems to be fine.

Thanks for the ideas tho.....

Keep us posted. It seems odd that a turbo timer would screw it up. I wouldn't think it should. Maybe you shorted something out or there's a loose connection. That seems entirely possible after taking things apart to install the timer and harness.

I was thinking of doing this mod. I have an HKS Type-O timer timer, so I'm interested to see how you solve it and what the issue is. You can still crank it with the key the old fashioned way, correct? Only the start button isn't working to fire it up? Try a new relay, they don't cost much. If you have access to another button, try that. Or, as bad as it sounds, completely uninstall the SK@ button and re-install from scratch with a new relay. If the relay or loose wiring or wiring was a issue, that should solve it. If something came loose in the button though, you still have have problems and need to either re-solder something or get a new button.

I had a dome light that worked intermittently for a long time. Sometimes it would 100% not work. Read fine on voltage, couldn't figure it out. Turns out the the top terminal that had a ground wire connected to it was slightly hairline cracked, and you couldn't see it hardly. It just stopped working one day after I had it out. My guess is it cracked when it was out or I was putting it in, and that's why it was working intermittently after that.
I broke it off the part of the metal terminal that was cracked, re-bent up the metal before the break to create a new tab for the terminal to fit onto, and everything is fine. My guess is something in the wiring is loose, or something in the button itself has come loose, as was the case with my dome light.

I hope I was some help.
