S2000 Start Button Installed

Well, I have mentioned in other posts (some of mine) about installing an S2000 start button & painting the chrome bezel black to match up. Well I did it & here are the pics I promised. Some are a little blurry, but y'all can get the idea.

I used Testors model paint in Flat Black. It matches up real well IMHO. I used some fine grit sand paper to scuff up the chrome around the end of the button & then wiped it clean & painted it. 2 coats later, I think it looks good.

I wanted a Black interior with Red accents & White back lighting (exterior will be red with black accents). The buttons on the climate control are Red & Blue & the PW controls are Red with white back lighting. All in all I like the way it turned out. I just need to put a White LED in the S2000 start button & get rid of my OEM stereo (tape & CD skips & plays terrible now).

looks good but forgive for asking what the point is lol.

does it bypass the key, make you not turn the key to start position?

if possible I would be glad to know its function

Got the wiring for the S2000 start button from here... S2K push to start button install

FWIW I got the S2000 Start Button kit off eBay, a little expensive at around $80, but it came with the button, plenty of wire & a relay. Some folks say you don't need the relay, some say the button will "eventually" burn out without a relay. I took no chances & just bought that kit, it even comes with instructions, but the wire colors were wrong, they were even different from my BGB.

Point is? Looks cool, if you like that sort of thing.

I wired the start button so that you can start it by using the button or the key (in case the button ever fails), you could cut the starter wire & then only the button would be able to start the engine, but I did not want to go that far. All you have to do is turn the key to the "ON" position & then push the button. But, it is really just for looks, I just have no need for the cig lighter & don't like it being there by the ignition cylinder, so I put that start button there. You still have to put the key in the ignition & turn it to "ON" for the button to work, it is NOT like a NEW car where all you have to have is the key in your pocket.

epically cool!!! I've been wanting to do this for ages but I want to have the button down by the shifter which means i prolly can't use the honda button. I also wanted to relocate the ignition lock but the german authorities force me to have at least a steering lock as theft deterrent.

It would be cool if it was just the button where the key is supposed to go and the key has to be put in the ignition somwhere else out of sight. Just my opinion.

That would be a major pain in the ass to put the key in that out of sight spot every time you wanted to start the car, and take it out again when you are done driving.

Even if its relocated just under the steering wheel area. It wouldnt be to hard to put the key in each time.

It's not worth the trouble to relocate it IMO.

If you do it & can't get rid of the key, this is powerfully un-cool.

What happens if the starter button is pushed when the engine is running?

I've wanted to do this for ages! I just never knew how nor looked into this too much. I would want to still be able to use my cig lighter because I use my car charger for my iPhone.

If you wire it up like it's wired up in this thread (and the thread linked to in post # 4), it would be just like turning the key to the start position with the engine running...you'd grind the starter.

Hmmm, sounds like yet another reason to do this mod right or not at all.

It's pretty easy to make it so that doesn't happen honestly. The only reason it does that is because most people don't fully understand wiring, relays, switches or BGB schematics so they don't design an ideal wiring diagram and wiring circuit

I agree though, do it right or don't do it at all
