Broken T-top Shade clip solution ***cheap***

Hi everyone!
I have been searching for a solution to my t-top shade delimma for awhile now, and I think I found one! I purchased my baby about 2 months ago she is a 91 turbo t-top. The car came with no shades and being I had never had a t-top car before I didn't know how freakin hot it can get with out those shades. So I looked for a used pair. I found a set for 50.00 shipped good condition YES! untill I got them yes they were in good condition EXCEPT one of the knobs was gone well I tried a paper clip, wedging stuff up there nothing worked. I started searching this forum and "the other forum" for a solution what I found was one little post were someone had used the nissan 300zx t-top shade clip and it worked!! so I ordered one about a week later FedEx dropped one off to me. I installed it in like 2min if that, and viola t-top shade fixed. It looks different from the Mr2 knob (see pics) but overall it works very well. and ALOT cheaper than toyotas solution.

There are 2 parts you need to order:
Knob Gray 91692-30p10 (the knobs also come in blue, tan, and red but I don't know the color codes)
Lock 91693-30p00

I ordered mine from z1motorsports.com the prices were 5.77 for the knob and 1.87 for the lock. Shipping was like 10.00 so if you have a local nissan dealer (I didn't) It will probably be cheaper there btw those are nissan's oem part #'s So if you are looking for a cheap solution this will work for you!

Hope this Helps!

Thanks for the write up. This is good to know. Shades are hard to find and it will only get worse over time. And you are so right about how hot it gets without them. The t-top actually magnifies the sun's rays and makes it unbearable in the summer.

I originally didnt know that mr2's came with the shades untill I started reading around the forums and people were mentioning t-top shades. I just went to autozone and picked up 2.5% tint and tinted them myself. It keeps the heat out pretty good and I can still see through them.(not sure about the transparency of the shades).

I considered tinting mine at first but I like to take the shades out at night and leave the t-tops in. The shades are solid so no light gets thru and because they are covered in the same fabric as like the headliner it just completes the interior IMO.

You know, now that I look at this, I SHOULD have known.

After all I used to own a 1984 300ZXT & with the Nissan knob on the shade it looks JUST LIKE the shade that was in my 300ZXT.

Oh well, guess I AM getting old & forgetful.

GREAT write-up though, thanks again April!

your welcome for the tip.

I too tried to tint the t-tops but the curved shape was enough to create wrinkles and I couldn't get it to fit right so I quit. shades ftw

Sorry to bring this old thread back. but i found a cheaper solution ^^
Nissan 300zx Lock

Oem Toyota (not sold separately)

When locked....

try spotting the fake one in the picture xD

they just lock in different positions. but that doesnt really matter once the other one breaks just replace that one and they'll be facing the "correct" position
edit:
the other side just broke and will be buying another nissan lock. the lock is only like $2 from nissan dealer.
Needed Part
part # 91693-30p00 from nissan

my other side just broke and so i just bought the lock and works fabulous xD slight modification if with just the lock. heat it up a little or do it in the sun. or just cut it a bit cause it'll tilt in an angle if you don't xD

I'm not allowed to sell here yet. I'll have a thread in the vendor forum for you guys when they are available after I pay vendor fees.....well I have some available right now, but I need to get things in order.

The price is $10 plus $3 shipping for a knob and latch. Get two knobs and two latches, and you won't have to pay extra for shipping. Just a few more weeks! Black and blue are pretty dead on. Tan and gray are a bit lighter than the original colors, but if you replace both at the same time, you'll be fine. Although I only sell the knob and latch together, you can use the reproduction latches with the OEM knob, if you please. They fit 100% perfect.
