gauge install above or below stereo?

hey guys
I was thinking of adding some gauges to my mister two. I want to get a boost gauge (maybe on the piller or something) as well as oil pressure and oil temp. Does anyone know if it's difficult to install these in the storage cubby that goes below the stereo? Is there a kit to do it, or would I have to make a sort of panel and rig something up?

Also, when you buy an oil pressure gauge, does it usually come with the tubing and T to tap into the oil line or?

Thanks for any comments!

I know the oil pressure gauge can be electrical w/ no tubing needed. There is a sensor you can get to replace the stock one and a wire runs from it to your gauge. And if you go the route of puting the gauges above or below your stereo, you could very easly make your own panel for that. I dunno if there is one on the market pre-made.

thanks.. just not familiar with how these gauges actually mount. Im sure i can figure out something though I'm not too handy with this stuff. I'm sure i can super-glue a panel over the cubby and run wires in through the bottom. I have a friend who races cars and insists that I get the mechanical oil pressure gauge with the tubing.... which would be a fair bit of tubing I suppose..

Yea, it would be alot of tubing. But I'm sure if you go that route it should come with everything you need. If you find a dealer to buy from I'd contact them and make sure you know what all comes with the gauges.

Good gauge install is an Omori boost gauge in the stock location. They can be found @ JSpecTuning.com...

Also, go to 'another board' and search for the 'pure sex gauge pod'.

Avoid the temptingly inexpensive "single DIN" gauge pods. By that I mean e-bay, and by "e-bay" I mean glowshift etc.

I'm sure they work fine for other vehicles, such as the owner's mazda somethingoranother, but their "universal" pod does not fit the MR2.

Apparently Blitz or someone similar used to make one speficially for the MR2 that would fit in the spare radio slot if you just have a single DIN, but I have yet to be able to find one. (If anyone has one laying around, I can make it worth your while )

It's that the 52mm gauge requires you to cut into your radio surround nomatter what the mount is. The 52mm gauge is taller than a single DIN height... Search for that Pure Sex gauge pod. It's a nice, clean, alternative

...that centerpanel gauge pod IS pure sex! That thing is bad @$$...

Jazzcornet, how much are YOU selling them for? Are you the one that sold them to Panelle?

Ok, thanks!

I'd go with this "pure sex" gauge pod. Super sweet and clean and the stock vents in that position are trash anywayz...

I wonder if there's something you can do with the area where the ash-tray goes. I smoke, but i hang my arm out the window :P

i dont know if it's too small..or if it could be 'modified' somehow..
when my gauges come in I will see if somethings possible. at least if i screw it up, a new ashtray is next to nothing

Well, my opinion's been stated. And I'm personally going with the 'pure sex' pod eventually...
