-=Steering Wheel Alignment=-

Story:

Installed after market Hub and steering wheel, test drove it, steering wheel isn't align. When the car is going straight, the steering wheel is tilted to the right. Drove it back home, and tried to adjust it, BUT THE HUB WONT BUDGE! I cant remove the hub and adjust it in the right position.

Question:

I tried everything but it wont budge, question is, can an alignment job fix this problem????

An alignment can center the steering wheel out. But it would be best to try and re-align the hub because if it is way off, you might run out of toe adjustment threads on the tie rods. And that is not necessarily the recommended way to fix it. Work on getting the hub off.

Don't try and fix a steering wheel that was put on incorrectly with an incorrect alignment. Take it off with a puller and put it on straight

2 ways to take it off.

1. Use a steering wheel puller.

2. Scoot the driver's seat as far up (toward the steering wheel) as you can. Firmly plant your feet on the floor board & push your knees against the back of the steering wheel (yes leave the wheel connected to the hub). With the horn button off the steering wheel, place a 6" socket extension against the spline that holds the hub on, make sure that nut is off the spline. While pressing against the back of the steering wheel with your knees, strick that extension with a hammer, make sure the extension is firm on the head of the spline, so it won't slip & mess up the threads on the spline. 2-3 hits with the hammer & the steering wheel & hub should fall off right in your lap.

Works for me everytime!

FWIW The proper way to center a steering wheel is to have an alignment done on the suspension to center the steering rack. Then remove the steering wheel & slowly rotate the hub around until the bolts that hold the steering wheel on can be lined up to center the steering wheel.
