Let's try this again...
Well I've fallin into the audiohead rut and I'm re doing my system again.
The most recent system I had was 1 RE Audio SE12 in 1.5 cube box tuned to 47 hz ( I really screwed up on calculating the length). I loved the system and was pretty loud off only 95 watts and sounded very good IMHO. So now my new plan is instead of 1 12" I'm gonna try 4 8" subs. The subs I've decided on are Sundown Audio E8's which can be picked up for 70 after shipping on caraudio.com. I plan on powering these with a 1000 watt at 1 ohm amp so if someone has one for sell please PM me. Then the part that makes this all possible, the box(es). The box(es) as designed so far is 1.26 cubes tuned to 36 hz per two subs. It has 14 inches of port area using flared ports so no need for more area. The box dimensions are 25 inches high, 19.5 inches wide the baffle plate is 12.5 inches tall. and the depth most importantly is only 9 inches... 4 inches less deep than my 12" box. This is what it looks like so far: |

from wat ive noticed in my many years playing with car audio...vented boxes are horrible in a small area, however im not sure about 8's ive always worked with 10's and 12's and i usually work with limited space boxes, i used to work a lot with big boxes also, the best setup i have seen is a large bandpass box, however, u cant really fit that in a 2
so with that said, i think ur setup would be better if it wasnt ported thats coming from my experience/opinion tho ![]() |

It may be true but I hear this argument alot and there a real heated thread about this like 6 months ago. I don't see why a ported box is bad in a small enviroment seen how many people use them in regular cab trucks with 12's. For what its worth I've had a sealed 8" in the car before and a sealed 12" also and nothing was better than that last ported box with the 12", it got lower, it got louder and still maintained the sound quality.

it may, the only factors are 1. how big the port hole is and 2. the sub however my thought with 8's is that if u want to port it i would go with only 1 hole, of course i dont know anything about the subs, i would have to hear them in person to even guess, i recomend building it with no ports, test it, then add one, test, and then if u decide 2 is better just add the other one
ur call, let us know how it goes |

I'll test sealed by just capping the ports but the ports I have shown there are already cutting it close on port noise. And I definately will show my results just need another paycheck lol.

Well. it's been a while that one needed paycheck turned into several needed, senior year is expensive lol. So to fill everyone in i ended up going with an MB Quart instead as it fit my budget, and the subs I'm using remain the same. I got all of it ordered and is in route to my jouse via UPS.
So now I'm in the process of building the boxes of which I will post pictures tomorrow. I feel really stupid though as I messed the size of the baffle and have to redo them. Now my question to anyone who reads this how do you go about rounding over a circle on a table router? |
