So I am in the market for new speakers for my Civic. It comes stock with 6x9s in the rear and 6.5" in the doors.
I am looking at JL Audio VR series and Apline Type R. I am going to be running these amped. I can't find a good stereo shop that has these speakers set up. I was able to listen to the Alpine Type Rs, but the place had them setup in a bad wall with all kinds of rattles because of wiring in the back. So, I don't think that they sounded as good as they could have. Also they couldn't hook them up to an amp. The only place I found that has JL Audio might be going out of business because they are always closed ![]() I really want a new system and am ready to invest in one, but I just can't listen to any speakers before I buy them. So, I guess I might have to buy some speakers sound unheard. So I guess the question is, JL or Alpine (if you have any of these installed, opinions please!) |

Well you can always read their reviews. From past experiences and with friends input, i heard JL are good for subwoofer (bass). For low and midrange people had always adviced me to go for mbquarts. I've always ended up with pioneers for the $$$ hahahahaa... I settle for the cheaper ones since i'm not in the market to showoff how loud or good my systems are but at least still carry a decent enough brand.
hope i dont see you with those blunkpunt or something... hehhehe ![]() |

I have read the reviews, and based on them, narrowed it down to JL and Alpine. I am leaning toward JL. I just was curious if anyone on the board had either of them installed in their cars.

sounds like another forum to join to regarding car audio
.... Well, I have pioneers all around. Fitted a 5 1/4" in the back and 6.5" in the front....You a member of civic forum? Maybe there are some posts there.... Its tough to pick between those two brands. They both make good products. Check out 2nd post reply ![]() http://www.mr2.com/forums/sound-off/...r-reviews.html |

Ben, I got lots of audio equipment that I have to sell in order to save for a 3rd gen motor. Shoot a pm with your phone # if interested. I live in Arcadia and I can hook up anything in my house so you can test and hear it. I am an audiophiler so my stuff is quality. I got too much to list here. The brands are old school top of the line made in the 80's and 90's like Soundstream and A/D/S. I can also install this stuff if you got a garage. Maybe we can work a deal out if you change my LED lights on my climate controls / Dashboard.

I am in Reno, NV now. I think that I found my setup:
Alpine PDX-5 amp (75W X4 RMS + 300W X1 RMS) JL Audio VR690-CXi JL Audio VR600-CXi I have a MTX sub that I managed to get for free, so I will be using that. If I want to upgrade the sub, I will probably go with a JL Audio 12" W3v3 |
