Its can be done. You need to always leave it in neutral when parked.

Actually (in Illinois) they made it illegal to put remote starts on manual cars (because ppl would leave the car in gear and when the car started it would ram the cars in front of it...LOL)
They said there's a new remote start for manual cars that won't start unless the cars in neutral (which I plan to look for because I want my car to be warm when I go outside in the snow) |

youl'd also have to bypass the clutch kill switch for that to work.. Its good and bad but yeah, remember to always have it on neutral

Compustar makes manual specific units, you have to place the car in "reserve" mode to allow for remote start, before you shut the car off you pull the ebrake, you then take your foot off the clutch, turn off the key (engine will stay on) and exit the vehicle, once done the car will shut off and be in reserve mode allowing for remote start....
DEI makes a 698M module that is an add on that allows for safe remote start, again this is set up the same as above with a reserve mode. I've got a FOX 2-way alarm off ebay that does remote start for manuals again using a reserve mode... This being said it's not fool proof, an installer that is on a forum board I venture who does stealth alarm installs and what not, had his window down, had a kid grab a bag out of the car and hit the shifter into gear (had his proximity sensor off) and it then pocket remote started into the escalade infront of him damaging his bumper, hood and popping loose his intercooler... He has the 698M unit installed... |

I had it done on a civic 5speed I owned a while back, its a pain trying to remember if I left it in neutral. One afternoon my brother (I thought it was in Neutral at the time) took the keys and hit the start button on the remote and the car started in first and luckily it was in the garage and hit up against my workbench... disabled it after that...imagine if the car was on the street?

Someone at work told me that there was a manual F-150 in the parking lot and the guy that went to go get it pressed the remote start and it almost ran him over and smashed up against a wall....LOL
Remote start is dangerous unless your careful, I don't have 1 but I usually leave my car in neutral unless im parking on a slanted surface, just imagine having your MR2 just start up and run right into a busy street, you better have some good insurance...lol |

A woman over here in New Zealand was killed by remote start. A guy started his 4x4 as he walked up to it and it climbed the curb and crushed a woman against the wall of the supermarket.
Personally I don't like them I think they are near pointless. I always leave my car in gear when I park cause I don't trust handbrakes. When I was 4 I was in a 4x4 and my mum pulled the handbrake and jumped out to talk to my dad and the cable snapped and it rolled down a hill and crashed through an empty concrete water tank, I was alright just covered in glass and concrete chunks. I have had no trust in them since then. |

Remote starts are mostly for winter time use, instead of going outside, starting the car, cleaning all the snow off the car, and then sitting in the car freezing your a** off for 10 mins waiting for your car to warm up
you can press the remote start, go outside, clean whatever snow is left on the car, and jump into a warm car (and thats just a N/A, I heard with turbos you have to warm them up for a long time to make sure the turbo and engine are both ready) |
