look at the wiring digrams in the bgb links on the board. it will have all the info you need. good luck. if you cant find what you need, let me know and i will pull my deck out and let you know as i had to do the same thing when i got mine cuz the previous owner destroyed everything in regards to the stereo.

Loverofmr2s that helped a little but are there no wires going to the speakers? I was able to find out which wires were acc and constant but still cant figure out which wires on the new cd player need to plug into the old wires that go to the speakers. I have a mr2 dealer repair book. with the wire diagrams in them but i cant read those to save my life.

I'm going to guess you have the factory premium sound system (The factory premium sound system has a double din HU with tape and cd, plus a 5 1/4" sub on the floor behind the drivers seat + 2 amps hidden away. 93+ MR2's had a 5 1/4" sub behind the passenger seat as well).
Two questions. 1. What year is your MR2? 2. Do you have the factory premium sound system or not? |

Sorry it took me so long. I have a 91 turbo with the premuim sound. i got everything plugged up finally and it works good till i start the motor then i get this winning noise. a buddy of mine thinks it could be EMI (electromagnetic interference). Could having a wire or my speakers wired wrong cause it to make this noise? I checked all my grounds they are all solid. i also made sure that i didnt have any loose wires laying around uncapped. Everything looks good and sounds good until the engine is actually running. i had a buddy help me read the wiring diagram out of the back of the book that i got from toyota could be that we missed read something. but i am about 90% sure that we have everything wired up right.
What do you guys think? If it is EMI what do i do to fix this? |

if you are getting a whining noise when you start the car, you have a bad ground, your getting alternator whine. check your ground on the deck and if it looks ok, then disconect it and hard ground the unit to any bare metal surface. that should take care of it

Yea i checked the grounds they all looked fine i even redid them to make sure. i also tried just wiring the grounds to the brown ground wire from the stock wire harness no difference.

When I did my radio I also got a whine and it turned out to be the green wire (the green was suppose to be for AMP) so I unplugged it and the sound worked fine without any whining noise

I dont have either of the green wires hooked up and they are capped off. Somebody said that my amp may be bad what you guys think about that? Wouldn't that make it wine all the time?

so i realized that as i rev the motor or while i am driving the car, as the rpms go up there is a higher pitch or different pitch of winning coming from the speakers.

You probably have a wire hooked up wrong, I would try just disconnecting 1 wire at a time until the noise goes away
and is the whining noise coming from all the speakers or from 1 particular speaker? |

It comes from all the speakers. If it was coming from a mismatched wire wouldn't it wine all the time not just when the car is on? Also if it was a mismatched wire i wouldn't think that it would change pitch when you rev up the motor.

PVpower, you have alternator whine. That's exactly what you are describing, 100%. You are picking up interference from the alternator. The reason the whine gets louder and quieter, and the pitch changes with RPM, is the alternator runs at different speeds and outputs different under different RPM's and loads.
It can be many different things. A bad ground, wiring ran too close to something which causes it to pick up interference. Even something bad on the HU circuit board itself can cause it to pick up interference. It's hard to diagnosis alternator whine without being there. If you want to read up more to understand it better, try these 4 links Alternator Whine Noise Prevention Crutchfield Tech Support: Noise Problem Troubleshooting: Whining noise Alternator Whine in Car Audio |
