Anyone from the mp3car side of things have one of these stylish beasts?
if not I may get to be the first here, but it's going to be a while before I get my '86 mr2 ![]() |

I've Always had an interest in doing this, I've actually got a 10" touchscreen laptop that I wanted to put in the dash of my Tiburon I used to have, but after taking the laptop out in the sun, I realized it was a poor candidate.
Couple links that might help ya out/inspire ya: MP3Car.com - Your source for mobile computing solutions! - All Blog Entries Custom Toyota MR2 aka Phoenix - MP3Car.com Forum Find: Custom MR2 with the Ultimate Car-Puter - Autoblog Oh and ya just might be the first MKI with a CarPC. |

Inspire me?
![]() http://www.netman86.com/pics/car/tn_IMG_7138.JPG I'm already working out version 2, the *linux* one for my mr2, it's on my desk. that's a 10" touchscreen in my current car, I've got a 7" wide that I think will go much better in the mr2. I don't need no stinkin' inspiration, just the car. ...yes, I plan on doing a better job with the mr2 one, not just sticking it on there. it's a 93 oldsmobile with collapsing suspension I drive for work, purely functional. |

the new setup?
As in the one I'm building for the car I don't have yet? ...sure. http://www.netman86.com/pics/rndslr/...n_IMG_0700.JPG It's uh, still in development. That's going to be the startup/shutdown controller, and it will also process audio controls. (I intend to fabricate hardware buttons on the dashboard to control the software mp3 player, next track, previous track, possibly switch playlists, etc) I've also got a VFD I'll probably throw in there somewhere to display the current track, but I might buy a nice 4 line one and have it display something like my speed (from the gps) and whatnot. If I ever get around to putting a new enough engine in the car I'm getting, I'll integrate the thing to monitor OBD-II data. http://www.netman86.com/pics/pwntbycomo.jpg |

I have also been working on a setup for my MKII as well. Working out the purchase of the items now, whether I want to custom build it all or use some of the nice package deals mp3car.com has.

I've never really been a fan of package deals for anything, but that's just me.
DIY is where its at ![]() http://www.netman86.com/pics/carputer/tn_IMG_6944.JPG that's the one I threw together for the olds I drive now. Note the desktop hard drive and laptop computer. I'm old-fasioned ![]() |

that setup is hilarious, I like how it's all in a suitcase. I also love DIY as well. I think Phoenix did a carputer in his MKII with a large screen in the stereo area.

I'm thinking I may do a sort of HUD (reflect off the windshield) but I have to do more testing to see how I like that sorta thing first.
not owning an mr2 yet I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm thinking a 7" widescreen touch panel in the center console in place of the radio. |

I am sure the preassembled carpcs work just fine, probably just a bit slower than a DIY.
Pheonix's car looks great with the screen basically molded into the center area. I want to put 7" Lilliput screen in my center console, but I don't have the fab skills to make a cover so it looks stock. If anyone by chance knows where to purchase one let me know!! |

Slower? mines a 1.8 bianas with 512 ram, I've never seen it go over 20% cpu usage. Of course, it's a windows unit.
Theirs are just really expensive, I'm a big fan of building stuff out of what I've got if I can. |
