Has anyone ever tried switching seat bases on the OEM seats?
What I mean is taking a passenger seat off the bracket and putting it on a drivers side bracket? I have several passenger seats that are in great condition but of course the drivers seat is always the one that needs replacing. Any input would be appreciated.

In my 1990 Toyota 4X4 the bases from the SR5 bucket seats don't quite match up. Drilling some holes & maybe a little welding & it would be fine.
I would imagine it would be the same with the MR2. But, you might be able to bolt/weld/rivet them up. Daniel ![]() |

Please give us the update... I have JDM seats in mine and the passenger side gets the seat height and lumbar adjustments. Pisses me off, lol.
I'd love to switch the bases around. |

Any updates on this? I want to swap my seats side to side before my driver's bolster tears.

The seat covers can be transferred from side to side. Just remove the clips/staples, and carefully slip each one off.

Unfortunately, what Mr220v is say is your only option. I was hoping to get lucky myself. I picked up two very clean JDM leather and suede Pass seats (AKA USDM drivers seat) with hopes of just transferring bases, no luck.
The problem is a mounting hole on the pass seat backrest the only mounts to the pass base. This is built into the frame, only option is to swap covers. I am mechanically inclined, though upholstery and electrical are my two biggest foes. I will definitely give it a try though, since the seat that will need swapping will be the pass, i could wiggle it on. In conclusion, many may have tried this before but failed to say why they haven't done this obvious (fat man seat) fix, lol. |
