Help me pick some subs
I need some help. I don't know much about subs and whatnot so I figured I would ask you guys.
I would like 8" subs with an amp(s) that will "move" them nicely. Nothing too overkill, I have an infinity 10" Basslink in my car right now and I think it sounds great, I just can't put my passenger seat all the way back. I have 2 fiberglassed subwoofer boxes courtesy of Old School (shown here....New Fiberglass speaker box!) I have read that JL makes some nice subs and I have read awesome reviews on them, so I think I would like those but I'm not sure. I don't want to spend a ton of money on them and I am not doing competitions, just something to fill the cab and possible a tad more at a show or something but nothing overkill. I don't know which amp would go with them either so help me out there too if you have time. Personally, I would rather keep everything all the same brand. Just so you know, I won't have a deck in my car, the sound source will be from my carputer so I don't know wha the "outputs" are or anything. Probably will have 3 outputs to the tweeter and highs amp, mids amp, and then subs amp. I don't know anything about this stuff so your help is appreciated. Pick it out, let me know and I will then throw 10 million questions at you ![]() |

i have an infinity basslink II in mine and it sounds fantastic. mine is behind the drivers seat. luckly im short enough that the seat goes back just perfectly for me and it gives me a nice massage. as far as getting something else, i would recomend getting a custom built setup. it all depends on how elaborate you want to go. if you want to remove the storage bins, that gives you quite a bit more room to work with. i have a friend that is currently using pioneers new (flat) subs and they actually sound very good and are designed to be used in minimal airspace. you might look into them. also i think kicker is making a flat sub as well. personally i like kicker better (i had a competion system in my jetta with 2 compvr's running off a kicer sx400.2 amp and it was hittin 152.6db's with a custom matrix panel box) i am thinking about getting a set of the kicker flat subs and building a custom box for them. ill let you know how it goes. i am gunna use 1 10 on each side so it should sond pretty good.

I love JL's amps
. Luni's sounds amazing. I'd hit him up and see what he thinks, he's built several systems in MR2's over the years. He did Borinal's and his won awards and **** at local shows. |

those are great looking boxes but for most subs, they are just to small and cant take full advantage of the subs. those look like maybe .5 cubic feet of airspace. most 10 in subs require somewhere between .75 to 1.25 cubic feet and 12's require a bit more. if i recall correctly, my setup in the jetta was a 4.5 cubic foot box for 2 12's. it took up most of the trunk but it hit so hard it wasnt even funny. i won many compitions with that set up both for spl and sq. thats the nice thing about the flat subs is they are designed to be used in minimal airspace but put out maximum spl. i think the pioneer subs only require between .35 and .45 cubic of space. good luck with your setup though.
