question about racing seats

do you guys recommend racing seats? i love the way they look and feel, but ive heard that they sit quite a bit higher than stock seats, and i know for a quality safe one you have to build a bar behind the seat for the belts so just curious if you guys think its worth it or just a complete waste of money.

With the adapter rails you have to install (or make) the seats will tend to sit about 1" higher or so. Which is not too bad unless you are real tall.

FWIW I plan on putting some new memory foam in my OEM seats & then recover them. They are really comfortable seats that hold you in well for an OEM seat. They are just old & need new foam & coverings.

Also, you don't need harnesses with racing seats, just be sure the MR2 specific sliders/brackets you get for the racing seats have the place to mount the seat belt receptacle. Which most quality sliders/brackets will have (i.e. Sparco).

PLUS, I would not buy or put in any after-market seat UNLESS it has a safety rating. IF you are racing then you HAVE to have a seat that carries that safety rating for your racing venue. If you are NOT racing I would just suggest new foam & coverings. Leatherseats.com has some NICE ones & in suede too. Just my

Would there be any way to keep the seats at least as low as the stock ones, or even a little lower? i am fairly short and have somewhat shorter legs, and I like sitting a little lower because it puts me in a better posture.

Also, I am a pretty skinny kid and want seats that hug me tighter than the stock seats.

IIRC Wedge Engineering makes some side mount sliders for MR2 after-market seats. If they still make them or you can find some, they will keep the after-market seat close to the OEM height. Just be sure your local authorities won't ticket you for having seats that don't have a safety rating. Some places even inspect the seats, if they see after-market seats, during vehicle inspections.
