How To: Clear Air Bag Light
If you have an air bag light on (Code 41) disconnecting the battery or pulling the EFI fuse will not clear the code.
Code 41 Has A Special Way To Clear It: You Need 2 Separate Wires One For Terminal Tc & One For Terminal AB. You Will Have To Ground Tc For 1 Second Then Switch And Ground AB For 1 Second - 5 Times: With the key in the ON position: Ground Tc ...............Remove Ground Ground AB ...............Remove Ground Ground Tc ...............Remove Ground Ground AB ...............Remove Ground Ground Tc ...............Remove Ground Ground AB ...............Remove Ground Ground Tc ...............Remove Ground Ground AB ...............Remove Ground Ground Tc ...............HOLD Ground Until Air Bag Light Start To Blink FAST. When The Light Blinks Fast You Are Done. |

you need pretty good rhythm, it must be done smoothly and evenly. *most* people dont get it on the first (few) times.
its the toyota approved diagnostic method, its perfectly safe ![]()

Or just make this & push the button.
Toyota Celica Online: Air Bag Tool But, Ben's description is the best I have seen yet. FWIW IF the air bag light does not reset then you either... 1. Have an aftermarket steering wheel (no more air bag) & just need to pull the ECU-B fuse in the frunk to eliminate the air bag light. 2. Have a problem with the system & you need to pull the code to see what the problem is. Pulling the code is similar to pulling a CEL code & is described in the BGB. Fix problem & then reset the air bag light. Also, "playing the drums" as this technique has been dubbed or using the Celica Tool I linked to will NOT set off the air bag. If it does then you have a major problem somewhere. Daniel ![]() |

So I'm trying right now. I'm getting Fast blinking from P/S and Cruise.
Airbag is blinking in a cycle Airbag...Airbag...Airbag...Airbag..............Air bag....... (loops) Any ideas? doing this wrong? How long is this suppose to take? Started when i forgot to plug in all the gauge cluster plugs in before turning the car ON. After some reading on the other forum. I realized that the airbag blinking 4 and 1 time at the end means its code 41. lol .... I finally got it to work. seems i wasn't go fast enough between the intervals and holding the ground long enough. It wasn't so much a fast blinking airbag light, it was a constant blink (with consistent pauses) Last edited by datguydeni; 02-16-2011 at 04:39 PM.. |

Pulled my cluster this weekend to remove PO installed white dials. The Air Bag light never came on since I bought my 91 NA last month and now I discovered why, no bulb! I installed a bulb and the Air Bag light came on and stayed on. I wired up an SPDT micro-switch I had lying around NC contact to AB, NO contact to TC and Common to E1. Then it was just a matter of key on then click on, click off until the Air Bag light started blinking fast as Ben said. Much easier than swapping a jumper between terminals. My Air Bag light now only comes on for a few seconds at key on and then goes out, as it should.
Many thanks to Ben for posting the procedure. |
