Interior - De-mod...
Normally when I work on an interior I replace the OEM headunit with an Alpine or JVC headunit. This time I removed the aftermarket unit and put back a OEM unit I got for a steal for $50. Looked a bit beat up but it was just REALLY dirty.
![]() Here is the nice JVC unit in all of it's glory. ![]() ![]() When I pulled the center dash I noticed a few things were not up to snuff. The venting that you see located about the radio was not attached to the trim piece, fixed now. Also, The JVC unit does not use the same mounting holes for the brackets on the radio as the OEM one. A quick call to Toyota and 15 dollars later. All the original screws are back where they belong. ![]() The 2nd previous owner was smart enough not to cut the factory harness. I have to rig back up the OEM wiring in the doors and rear quarters. The speakers appear to be non-existent and some aftermaket 6x9s are mounted in the intended stock Amp/Sub location. That too will change, shortly. More to come... |

Why do aftermarket headunits always look gay? They always looks so flashy to me and stick out like a sore thumb.

I have been looking for a newer OEM headunit that is also a MP3 player. The 4Runner, Celica, and Yaris have one that looks pretty close to the MKII style...

Another positive note on the factory stereo is nobody is going to break into your car to steal it.. lol

That looks great! I regret removing my stocker, even though the cd player skipped all the time. I personally cannot stand the looks of 99% of the aftermarket units out there.
