Exclamation need help with wiring rear speakers...

ive had my mr2 for about a year now. when i bought the car the previous owner had installed a cheap panasonic headunit and some cheap front door speakers... the was NO rear speaker on the driver side (so i geniusly just assumed it didnt have any period), well there was a passenger side rear speaker... the car also has the factory tweeters which also do not work (the rears do not work as well).

i have installed some pioneer 3 way 4 inch speakers today in the rear. i spliced them into the factory wires... i replaced the headunit with a alpine head unit... but i dont know which wires are for the rear speakers to wire to the head unit.

does anyone know or have a picture of which wires behind the dash are for the rear speakers and possibly for the tweeters as well? any help would be super appreciated.

The wires should be colour coded.
If you still have the original stereo plug in place behind the head unit, just pull it out and check which wires in the old plug that matches in color with the wires that is used for the speakers.

Be aware that a lot of the wires are almost simmilar in co0lores. But there can be differenses in color, dots in color coding, and so on. The dots can vary in shape and numbers.

When you find the ones in the dash that looks just like the ones to the speakers, test that it is the same wire by plugging the wire to a battery and a small light bulb or something. Alternatively use a resistance measureing device. If the resistance is zero, you have the right wire.

magnesmurf thanks for the tip.. i tried to trace the wires and the previous owners spliced up the wires quite a few different times with a buncha different color wires... so i jus ran all new wires and didnt worry about the old crap since it wasnt hooked up anyways.

they work now so yay for me..

again thanks for the help

Two alternatives. The first looking at the BGB wiring schematic to determine the colors. The second, use a meter to test continuity from the wiring harness behind the head unit to the OEM speaker location.
