Hiya 1991 turbos.

14 gauge is recomended with pigtail RCA behind unit for each channel separately.

The photos show the lead from the amp to the unit, but for some mysterious reason, I'm not gonna pull the HU out to show how it's hooked up.

Try a different audio company, it can be done.
out of say 100 eclipse headunits i've seen, 60-70 have a button fallen off...maybe they caught on and fixed this??
I have had 4 Eclipse decks in the cars I have owned, I may be lucky, but I have never had anything fall off.

Head unit: old school Alpine (green chicklets rule!!);
Amps: old school Soundstream (Handcrafted & Designed in the USA, sweet!!);
Xover: old school Soundstream (same as above, plus features, such as summed center channel, and fold-back bass!!);
Processors: old school Alpine & EQL (clean & simple!!);
Speakers: old school Morel (high end) & old school Infinity (bang for the buck);
Interconnects & speaker wire: Kimber Kable (great quality & ease of use);
Power & Ground wiring: old school Monster Cable (before they started selling that pathetic silver coated unbendable crap);
Miscellaneous connectors: old school Streetwires & Monster Cable (actual brass connectors, which are hard to find now).

Can't go wrong with Alpine for head units.
I have a 3 channel Xtant X603 amp that is incredible.
Orion HCCA amps kick ass too.
JL Audio speakers are top notch.

Should have titled this "best mainstream audio company" since that is what you have listed for us to choose from. Like others have said there are much better brands than the ones that make this list, but from what you have JL wins no doubt, with Alpine making the best head units...

I'm not sure you can consider Eclipse one of the best audio companies. Do they even make head units anymore? I know they currently have a couple Navigation units on the market, but have not seen any car audio products from them in a while.

Nakamichi went bankrupt some years back. I know they are still around but only make a few car audio products. They once were a big time high end audio company. Most of their heights were during the time when cassette decks were considered high end though.

I chose other. I have an Alpine head unit and a Memphis 10" shallow behind my passenger seat and a Street Edge Memphis amp behind the driver seat. 2 Alpine 6 1/4 in the doors and blown speakers behind the seats on the wall. Car sounds great. I wouldn't have it any other way, other than relocating the amp and putting another 10" Memphis behind the driver seat.

I probably going to get a lot of laughs at my favorite, but here goes anyways.

My fav is by far JVC, I love all there systems, they are easy to use, don't cost a lot, and for what money you do spend on them they sound good.

My current fav from JVC is the KD-AVX44. I had one for a while in my 2008 Toyota Yaris 3door, I still have it even though the yaris is gone. I plan on putting it in my 88 MR2 but only after I find a good stereo install kit.

I find a lot of the electronics are similar, most of them are very good, sonically crisp and dynamic. The only reason I chose Alpine is because they're easy to use, intuitive and very rugged. I've never had one break on me yet nor has my brother and two of his friends (they followed my lead years ago).

But I would say speakers are more important nowadays because the electronics seem to have been more or less standardized. Because my Infinity car speaker set is uncolored, I was forced to replace my shitbox computer speakers w/ reference monitors, now they're about even with my car audio.

HOLY **** YOU'RE WRONG lol. All speakers ARE NOT AT ALL built the same. Once you've seen the factory process at a place like Dynaudio, Rainbow, or Micro Precision, you would understand why the high end brands look better, are built better, and sound better than all the off the shelf crap. I'm sorry but I get personally offended when someone say's "they're all pretty much the same these days". God that statement is wrong man. I don't mean to jump down your throat personally, just statements like that kill me. Misinformation kills me, and an internet forum shouldn't ever be the place to spread misinformation as people come here for education.

I read his post as saying brands and such aren't a big deal because everything is standardized these days.......
