Metra 40-UV43 Motorola Antenna Y-Adapter - 1 Male To 2 Female

the cable shipped costs under $7.00.

It should be 75 Ohm cable. Use a standard Motorola male fitting on the radio side end of it.

The OEM antenna cable uses a GM male antenna fitting on the end of it, but it's still a standard 75 ohm cable, not a twin lead 300 ohm cable. If you'd had an OEM antenna, you'd need a GM to Motorola adapter or you'd need to cut off the GM fitting and install a Motorola one. However, you don't have to worry about that. Just use a male Motorola fitting on the 75 ohm cable when you make it.

thank you, i'm buying the metra "y" adapter and some 75 ohm cable today.

earlier i took pictures of the roof antenna

the antenna wasn't connected to any cable hence the poor reception. i thought it was because i couldn't extend the antenna....nope......there's no cable attached to it.

i guess i have to remove the inner pillar moulding to get to the antenna cable?

when I changed the one in my MK1 which is identical to that one , it runs through the pillar all the way down by the fuse box. I don't remember taking out the interior pillar trim but it's been quite a long time so I may be wrong. It was kind of a pita to fish it down though.

I just looked on the Lithia site and the they have your manual antenna for a decent price. It's probably cheaper than doing all the extra work for the windshield one.

thanks for the info. i also found a metra replacement # BK 7307001

Store Locator | NAPA Online

for $14.69

i was hoping to find a replacement that doesn't retract. something like this -

i was able to fix the antenna thats on it right no. when i removed it yesterday, it had several bends that prevented it from extending, i unbent the kinks as much as possible and now it extends. to my dismay, the antenna cable was disconnected.

i don't know how to remove the pillar... i'm hoping it doesn't require removing the dash.

i'm going to upgrade to the premium sound windshield regardless. it will be my first official mod to this car.

You don't have to remove the dash. I'm sure the hardtop is a little different than a t-top, but you don't have to remove the dash to get the pillar out. Honestly, I'd look in the footwell behind the fuse box also. Either the antenna comes out behind the pillar, or it comes out behind the kick panel trim down low.

you have no idea how much you have helped me.

i have everything in place.

windshield installer set to place premium sound windshield. that weekend of, my buddy is going to help me with drilling a space and grommet placement. then crimping the plug for the windshield with 75 ohm cable, with the proper end. then using the y adapter, connecting crimped cable and roof antenna cable. then getting the proper gm end to connect into the aftermarket stereo harness.

i will follow the above post to find the roof antenna cable.

really excited about this

Sounds good. I'm glad I could help. One last thing, you don't need to put a GM fitting on your cable coming from the windshield antenna. The OEM cable uses a GM fitting. You need the cable to have a Motorola fitting to connect it to the Y adapter-aftermarket stereo. If you had a windshield antenna/premium sound from Toyota, you'd need to use a GM fitting to Motorola adapter. Since you are custom installing the windshield, just use a standard Motorola antenna cable fitting on the antenna coming from the windshield antenna

Let us know how it works out with the roof cable

i've been mia for awhile ... my car was hit when i parked it outside. no info on who hit it.

this weekend i took a trip to sacramento(from l.a.) to pick up the parts that were damaged from a seller on these boards called "divinity". he has several complete sw20's and parts galore.

i also picked up an oem turbo windshield from him

when he removed the windshield he cut the antenna cable, i'm going to weld it back on.....

he showed me where it was cut from but on the way back i forgot .....

i searched for a pic online but couldn't find one, the pic you posted is a little difficult to see where the cable is connected to exactly.

as for the roof antenna cable, i found it but somethings holding it back. its not connected to the antenna as shown in previous pics.

are these tied down to the pillar from the factory? looks like i'll have to remove the pillar moulding(don't know how yet) to get to it.

it should pull straight out the top after it's been disconnected from the bottom.

I'm a little confused. You say he cut the windshield atenna cable. Is there any wire coming off the windshield still, and you just need a plug, or did he literally cut it so there's no wire coming off the window. It's hard to figure it out without seeing your windshield, but you'll need at least an inch or so of wire so you can crimp on new antenna cable/wire and a new plug, etc.

The antenna wire comes out the bottom of the windshield as a black wire with a plug on it. The plug fits onto a stud fitting on the firewall on cars with an OEM windshield antenna. You can probably drill a hole, crimp on a wire extension and bring the wire through the firewall if you don;t have the stud on your car. However, as far as the windshield goes, you'll need at least a little bit of the antenna wire coming off the windshield. The diversity film antenna in the windshield connects to this wire, and this wire transmits the signal to the radio. If the wire is 100% cut flush with the windshield so there is no bit of it left, you'll have a heck of a time trying to crimp on an antenna wire, since the only way you can really access the diversity film antenna to connect to it is through this wire.

Could you solder an extension onto the windshield?

the radio end is connected still. its the antenna end thats disconnected.

when i pull on the cable from the kick panel it seems to be lodged/tied down.

i'm assuming its the correct cable because its routed into the piller. when i touch it the reception on the radio changes.

i'll take pics with my phone(2.1 mp) of the cable.

i didn't ask on why he cut the windshield antenna cable but i followed around the insulation and found the spot where it was cut. he cut it flush to the windshield. i'm positive i can solder/weld it back on.

the cut cable was included with the windshield. i'll take pics this weekend.

Glad to hear you can fix it. Cutting it was just pure stupidity on his part. It unplugs from the fire wall, there is absolutely no reason to cut it...ever.
