Are there pc or laptop based piggybacks available?
Ok, so I'm kinda new to the realm of aftermarket tuning. I was thinking that I wanted to use an eManage Ultimate as a piggy back to my OBDII stock ECU... But I got to thinking.
Is there a laptop based system that could achieve the same tasks? If i was to have a laptop in the car at all times, are there ways to wire it in to the car like a piggyback and use it to trick I mean control fuel and ignition timing of my stock ECU? I figure that would be a far more capable and upgradeable system if it was out there. And that way could also be used for things like audio and on the fly tuning. Anyone know if its a possibility? |

Is it possible? Definately.
Where can you buy one? I haven't the foggiest =( Honestly though I would just build a cheap standalone PC out of desktop components then spend $700+ on a laptop. You can get a form factor (shuttle) case, pop an $80 mobo/proc in there and then link it up to a flip out LCD display. Not only would it be cheaper than buying a laptop for it, but you would have a l337 flipout display that you could pwn your freinds faces off with as you access all your engines tuning parameters at the touch of the screen. This is assuming that your ECU supports it. I know there are hardware/software combos specifically designed to tune Miatas. With something like this you can preload street and race settings from inside the car and, IIRC, the settings apply immediately (or after like a couple minutes of easy driving). I know the Link ECU does this on Miatas... idk if there are any specifically designed for deuces, but I bet a Link would work on a deuce as well, as long as you dled/wrote different maps. |

Your best bet for a laptop based piggy back is the Greddy e-manage.

The smt6 and 7 can also remove the afm
The 7 has more advanced features such as closed loop tuning with a wideband, 5-7 setpoint outputs...etc... |

The SMT 7 sounds like a pretty nifty deal, much better than rev.6
