Hydra Nemessis / AEM ems / S-AFC
Hey guys i just bought an MR2 turbo and im new to the mr2 family. I'm posting this because i been searching for about 3 days what size injectors and what fuel computer i should get to tune my car..... my current setup is.... JDM engine, JDM computer, JDM trans, dualstage water injection, dual stage manual boost controller, running 16psi. I just order an intercooler to upgrade my stock one that comes with a BOV as well... I also have a new racing clutch etc etc and flywheel.. i'm now ready to buy injectors + fuel computer .. for my setup what size injectors do you guys recommand ? and will an AFC fuel computer do the job as for as tuning ? I really didint want to waste a lot of money on a computer like AEM EMS etc etc.. anyone have any ideas what should be good for me ? is 550cc enough ? do i need more then 550cc? perhaps 660c? Please advise.. If you'd like to e-mail me individually my e-mail is movado.evo8@gmail.com thanks! -=)
~Marco P.S. from reading a few threads i notice that the AFC might not be a great idea so most likely i will go with the Hydra nemessis or AEM.. which one out of the too is better for a mr2 ? also when installing the standalone if i have a JDM computer/harness and motor etc etc will it be any different on the installation from the reg mr2 turbo ? |

Hey welcome to the forum!
The ultimate question is what kind of power would you like to make? Will you be changing the cams out? or going to a fairly large turbo? If yes to the above then standalone is the way to go...for me personally its the Hydra unit which you can get from KBlake on this forum or mrcontrols.com he is a great person and knows these units VERY well. However in the end it matters on where you are as sometimes the local tuning shops cannot/wont work with these units for some reason and they may be farmiler with the AEM unit...for simplicity sake it may be better to go that route...IF you have too other wise stay with Hydra. If yo dont plan to go crazy with the engine then you can avoid standalone altogether and go with a piggyback. Now the only unit i would ever touch would be the SMT6 from perfect power (Yes i do sell those and NO thats not a reason at all why i am recommending this unit over the others.) The perfect power unit is capable of advancing and retarding your timing which is CRUCIAL in tuning these engines! Its very easy to install and setup AND has a lot more features then any of its competitors. As for injectors...cant say anything until you give us a HP goal cause that is key to choosing injectors. |

Hey thanks for the info sorry i forgot to mention i already am using an HKS 20g turbo. and Warlboro 255 high pressure fuel pressure so next step i assume its injectors and what size do i need and what type of computer.. I don't know if it's possible but i was hoping to attempt to get at least between 380-400whp... is it possible with my setup ? I might get cams later on if im not happy with my hp results. But for now i was thinking of not getting them hehe.... How much does that piggyback computer you were talking about sales for ? -=) ? |

The time, effort, and cost to get to 300-320ish whp is significantly less than to get to 380-400whp...take it a step at a time...if you're still on stock injectors...the most you're putting out as is is 280whp...an EMS and some injectors aren't going to get to an extra 200-220whp |

The answer to that will heavily depend on your power goals. As previously mentioned, there's an exponential relationship between power and price.

power goal
My power goal is 375rwhp-400rwhp. Def gonna go with aem or hydra and from the post above i'm assuming i should go with 800cc side fed injectors correct ?
n some hks 264 cams.. if i reach my minium goal which is 375rwhp i'd be happy but i want the # to be hopefuly between the 375-400. on pump gas, don't know if it's possible.. Hope the water injection helps. |

800s will get you there, as will top-feed 84 pound injectors, which are cheaper. Check out www.wolfkatz.com for some of the best fueling options in the MR2 community!

Wolfkatz has their semi-annual spring sale right now. (usually they have one in the spring and then again in the fall/winter). Their side feeds are 275 ATM and believe their top feeds as well...and top feed + clips and flying leads are around 600 (?). If you're getting new fuel parts, now is the best time than ever.

Wolfkatz makes FANTASTIC stuff! If they have a sale, I might just grab one of their top-feeds. I need an ethanol setup.
