AEM EMS ECU

Hey guys im going to purchase an AEM EMS ECU this week but im knew with the MR2 stuff. I bought the car from someone and supposaly this has a 1993 jdm motor/trans/lsd/ecu/wireharness. My question is do i order a AEM EMS ecu for a 1993 mr2 turbo ? Is it the same thing as the JSPEC one ? Does it matter if i say 1993 or 1991 are the AEM EMS ecu's different for depending on the year ? I want to make sure before i waste 1500$ + thanks.

93 JDM is the gen 3 motor. You are out of luck with the AEM EMS, you will have to repin it.

Email RickyB about the Nemesis. It's a very attractive alternative to the AEM EMS. I'm almost positive it does support the gen 3 motor in a plug-and-play fashion (no rewiring of the car). rickybenitez@hotmail.com.

Post a pic of your engine bay and we can tell you which motor you REALLY have.

You have a gen 2 JDM. It's the same as the USDM circa 1993-1995, except for the EGR. The USDM motors had EGR, and yours does not. It has that goofy airflow meter, telling us it's a gen 2.

Cool thanks for the 411.. So if i have a gen2 JDM motor that means my ECU has to me JDM and wireharness too correct ? Meaning when i order the Hydra Nemessis EMS or AEM or which ever fuel computer i'd have to order a EMS for a gen2 JDM motor/wiring harness ? Will i still get Plug and Play or whats the stats for that ? I'd Perferr Plug and Play.. Any feed back on this would be greatly appreciated it Yeah the saler told me it was off a 1993 mr2 JDM, he got the rear clip from JAPAN from some company in PA. So gen 2 motors are 93-95 correct ? Also you said the only difference is EGR that the USDM motors have EGR and the JDM do not. What is EGR ?

Yes, definitely specify which harness you have. I'm 95% sure the pinout between the gen 2 JDM and the 93-95 USDM are the same. In that case, you would use the 1121 box (AEM EMS) or the JDM jumper config (Nemesis) when you order it.

You will get plug and play for the Nemesis. For speed-density (which you want, that AFM runs out at 250-ish rwhp), you will need to wire in a MAP and IAT sensor set to the AEM EMS.

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It's a pollution device that reduces NOx. Japan and most of Europe have very relaxed laws concerning NOx, so Toyota didn't need an EGR for those markets. They had to put it on for the US markets to reduce NOx, as the US is more strict concerning NOx emissions.

Sounds good good.. Seems like so far from what i been readin the the Hydra Nemessis EMS is a very good EMS for a toyota mr2.. I'm like 80% sure that's what i will go with. Before i decide i want to make sure i order t he right stuff lol... How can i find out what wiring harness i have ? Is there any easy way to finding out ? hehehe.... So far the saler has not lied about anything.. He said it was a JDM harness.. ... wonder if i order the wrong part if they vendor would let me return it for the correct one... hehe...

Email RickyB (MRControls Engineer) and ask him this question. Since he did the R&D for this platform, he would know what wiring looks like what from some pictures, I'm sure.

Yes! Bryan "NoShoes" Moore is a fantastic tuner that travels up and down the East Coast. He's a Nemesis ninja master. Drop him an email.
