I have to strongly disagree. Even if some may have managed to get some of them registered there are none here legitimately with the exception of some of the 91s. None of the other years are on the allowed import list.

So if people from Japan move here, there is no way to bring cars over? What about military, do different rules apply to them if they live in Japan for a few years, and wanna bring something back? (Guess that would be a question for Dave aye?)

Is there a list of Turbo 95 vin numbers any where? I know there isnt an official list but anything would work right now. Ive run across a very "affordable" 95 turbo and I need to verify some how that its legit. Brian, I'll PM you the info on the car and you can let me know what you think about it.

There are huge gaps in the VIN sequences for the turbos since the VIN format is the same for worldwide production. I have around 5000 possibilities IIRC for 95 VINs and we only got approximately 100 of those.

VIN Check
JT2SW22N9S0098758
Is anyone familiar w/ this VIN? It does not seem to match any on your list but comes up on Carfax as 95 Turbo. I think it was the scam car someone mentioned. |

It really came up as a 95 turbo in carfax/ Because there isnt a SW22 chassis code that i know of? There is a SW21 for the U.S. and SW20 for everything else.

Brian,
According to Toyota, there were 625 MR-2 imported in 1994 and 93 in 1995. The total production in 1994 is divided as January thru May 1994 (belong to year 1994) and from June thru December 1994 (belong to 1995). The same with the total been imported in 1995 that were 93. The only detail might be that all of them were manufactured between January and May 1995, bucause that is the cut off of Toyota for the following year. As you previously said, the NA model are easy to track and you came with a number of 200. If that is true, then just 52 cars were manufactured from January thru May 1995 and 148 from June thru December 1994 on regards of the NA. Which means 93 (1995 been imported) - 52 (NA) = 41 Turbos been manufactured between January thru May 1995 for US market. Going back to the 625 been imported in 1994; some of them were NA and Turbos for year 1993 (from January thru May) and some of them for the NA and turbos of 1994 (from June thru Dec) There is something weird with the serial sequences of the turbos vs. NA. The NA have some kind of formality and logic. There is a connection between the serial, the manufacturing date and the car number. We just need to figure it out..... that the hard part!!! |
