FEELER: Carbon fiber doors!!

Is anyone seriously interested in getting some carbon fiber doors made for our cars? This is going to be a door shell, you reuse your stock door trim on the inside.

I am still shopping aroudn to see who I will have make this for us. I would like to go Seibon because of their known quality and my personal experiences with them have been fantastic in both quality, fitment and service. They are reputable and have been around, which is why I would preffer them. However their costs are a little pricey in comparison to some other companies, and their buy-in for a custom part like this is 20 minimum orders.

So all of this is going to be dependant on who is SERIOUSLY interested. I am going to rough estimate a set of doors is going to cost $1500, give or take $100 or so. Could be more, could be less(most likely not less though).

Here is a picture of the doors Seibon makes for the AE86 Corolla:

Well.. aren't there already CF doors available?

Edit: See here http://www.mr2board.com/forums/mk-2-...html#post54936

Edit again: I see your price would be half that. If I had the cash floating around I would def be in on this for sure. I wonder though, do you paint your doors or show them off and risk most people thinking you have unpainted doors on your car?

Good thing resin buffs better than paint. You can key a car that's painted, and then you have to repaint the door. If you key CF, you can juse sand the resin down and clear it.

TTT, just want to see if anyone is still seriously interested in this. I have maybe 15 or so people interested, so we just need to pick up a few more people and we can get this project going...

Given the Japanese exchange right now, the AskSport doors are quite a bit cheaper than what they were before (against the Canadian dollar, anyway). Have you considered doing a group buy on these parts that are already produced? They're right in the price range that you're talking.

You're looking more like $2100 shipped, IIRC. Like I said, with exchange, that could have gone down recently.

Mart at Race Designs UK makes these as well, well I think they are Fiberglass, but lighter just as well. You could ask him How much for a Group Buy. They also make hoods, Trunks, The coolest flushmount headlights, Fronks, Lots of Mr2 Goodies. PM me for his email if you want.

I myself am all for buying the doors. Unfortunately I am a Poor Bastard and would have to save up for like a year!!

Probably just as well. The doors are already the weak point on MR2 bodies.. The car itself is a rock, but the doors are hideously weak in a side impact. CF will only make that about a million times worse.
