Annual 4th of July Carolina's MR2 Meet!!

Hey guys, just wanted to let you guys know I'll be hosting the Carolinas 4th of July MR2 meet out at the house (same place as the last two or three years). We've started gathering interest of who'll be attending from the other board, wanted to post a heads up here and also guage interest. We'll need a head count soon so we can make some guesstimates on food purchases, etc.

As of right now we are planning:
I'll be there and should have everything set up by 11:00 AM, folks can arrive any time around then, slightly earlier if they want. We'll order Papa John's pizzas around 1:00 PM (to allow for stragglers who may be hungry, I'll also warn them I'll be sending in a large order, so we aren't waiting on these things very long) and we're also planning to have hot dogs and chips. No wings/burgers this year, trying to make things simpler and not have someone stuck at the grill for half the day.

The shop will be open, but the lift will most likely still be taken up by dad's mk2 unless we get a transmission swapped before then. If the lift is free, folks will probably be allowed to use it to mess with their MR2's. Folks can definately check out the shop, paintbooth, 65 Mustang (still looks like it did last year, with the addition of more dust, lol), etc. I'm checking on the log houses full of antiques to see if my Grandfather feels up to having folks come through them... most folks really enjoy checking out those two log houses from the 1800's full of antiques. One is set up like it was lived in, the other is a two story full of display cases and whatnot. The smaller one was on land Andrew Jackson's parents owned, and was likely a cabin/home they rented out... so there's your tidbit of history for today. Come to an MR2 meet... see a house that a former president of the country used to own (and a dern fine president at that... he was a true American hero).

Let's see, we'll also have a drive/cruise for those who are wanting one. I've mapped out what I think is going to be a really nice little drive (with lots of curves!!!), I'm going to time and drive it this coming Friday afternoon to check traffic density and to verify the best direction to make this loop in (trying to keep lefts to a minimum and will print up directions for the cruise so we don't lose people along the route). I also know of some other good local roads so anyone wanting to do a LONG run we might do something like that at the end of the day. This other longer drive would be about the time folks decide to start leaving and would likely be a 45 minute or so one-way drive, then another 45 back. I think the shorter drive should be good to do around 3PM.

I don't want to hassle with fireworks or doing the overnight camping thing (since I live so close, and so do most of my friends, and I don't want to leave folks in my parent's back yard camping out unattended). Since there was interest in camping... if anyone wants to camp in MY back yard (less than a mile from the meet location at my parent's house) they are very much welcome to if they check with me first and just give me a heads up. Can't be too loud too late cause I do have neighbors that are not super far away, so just be considerate is all if you want to do that. If we have a few folks that want to continue to party or who might want to hang out and have a few drinks after the meet, me and my cousin live close by and we'll either one be happy to host a few folks and to hang out a little longer. Also if some folks are in from a bit further away and are looking for somewhere to crash overnight, check with me, might can work something out. I don't have much space here inside my place but we can probably work something out. I've got plenty of parking as well over here at my place. Also if anyone wants to come from WAY away, and doesn't want to camp or crash on a couch/floor, let me know and I can try and hunt down a fairly local hotel/motel (probably around 20 minutes away).

I guess that's all I've got for right now... last year we had a really nice turnout and we're back to about the same size these were when Mitch held them in Charlotte about 20 minutes from where I live. We outgrew his place and moved to my location the past 3 years. Well, I guess that about covers it for now. No need to double post on both boards, just post on one or the other if you're coming. Oh, and the cost of everything is just covered by donations from folks attending. We had a little overage from last year and that will be applied to costs for this year for some supplies. We'll have coolers stocked with sodas and I may be wandering around discretely pouring a bit of whiskey into a Pepsi, but be aware that Dad isn't into drinking and probably would rather folks did NOT bring beer/booze. So either do what I'm doing (and spike your drink discretely) or just hold off until we leave the meet there, lol. Afterwords, we can have some at my place, that's fine, but he's not so cool with it at his place. I figure we'll kinda start winding down somewhere around 4 or 5 since some folks are going to want to get back home for events or fireworks shows. If you want to see the best fireworks display ever, simply drive through the county at 9:00PM. Anywhere near developments seems to work, and you'll see an amazing fireworks display from all these people's back yards as they break the law and fire off illegal fireworks (in NC anyway). It is a beautiful thing .

We are located just out of Charlotte, NC... near Monroe and Waxhaw (28112)... close to the South Carolina border. I'll post specific directions/address closer to time. All are welcome, (anyone with a cool ride... especially toyotas, but exotics/other cool imports are good too!), so just let us know if you're planning to attend. Hope to see some of you there, and hope to meet some new folks as well! Looking forward to a great time this year! If you need additional information feel free to contact me on here. I check the board pretty frequently.

Aaron

Cool, all my local buddies have mk2's and one has a mk3. What year/color is your ride? One of us has probably seen you around. My buddies have two teal 93's, a red 92, I've got two red 88's (sunroof cars, one ferrari red with some custom body work), a white 86 (waiting for running gear), and dad has a white 88 S/C and a black 91 that he hasn't gotten on the road yet. If you don't have to work until late you should swing by for a few... we'll start hanging out around 11ish just before lunch.

I actually might be able to come up. It'd be great to meet some other Carolina Deuce drivers while I'm actually in the state. I'll try and get in touch with my bro and see if he can make it; he's a Marine at New River. If he can, he'd be showing up on his Buell tho.

Sounds good, would love to have you guys! My dad used to have a couple GSX-R 1100's back in the early to mid 90's. Drove like a madman and it is a testament to his driving skill that he's still around today. Very few riders that rode like him would be. He's good people and he'll be around along with his two Deuces. Both of them run now, his 91 is waiting for a transmission though but seems to run great! He's got it up in the shop (which will be opened up as well for folks to check out/hang out too of course). I should toss up a teaser shot of the shop on the boards ... hmm... Oh, and dad is a former Marine (trapped planes in Vietnam).

By the way... Address for the meet is: 4611 Crow Rd. Monroe, NC 28112. I'll leave this up until after the meet, then pull it... no point leaving an address online permanently!! I'll check the online map deals to see if they're accurate... sometimes they aren't the best. Looks like a fair turnout from what I've seen on the other board... maybe a few less than usual because of fuel prices combined with the long weekend deal. A good many folks seem to be taking vacations or not able to take a day off because some other jerk is taking vacation that day, so they have to work, lol.
