October 2008 MR2 Showcase

Congratulations to Stados - MR2Board's October 2008 Showcase MR2!
1987 Toyota MR2 w/ BEAMS Redtop 3SGE

Click the below thumbnails for fullsize pictures:

October's Showcase showing is the first car we've seen with this unique setup. Starting life as a 4AGE powered MKI, Sébastien opted to change out the powerplant for a much more powerful and desirable BEAMS 3SGE. Stados' love for MR2s started at 18 years old, with a rust MKI N/A being his first car. Since then, Sébastien has owned a total of four MKIs, this Showcase car being his fourth.

After crashing his third MR2, a white Supercharged version, the search for another MR2 began. Sébastien purchased this rust fee 1987 MR2 shell with only 130K miles and began to swap over some of the more desirable parts from his 1989 car, including a full leather interior and sway bar. Stados' sits on the often suggested Koni and Eibach suspension combo and stops through upgraded brake pads with slotted and drilled rotors. The real excitement, however, sits under the engine lid where 200hp are put to the ground through a BEAMS Redtop.

Congratulations to Stados' for having a MKI unique enough to find its way into the October ShowcaseMR2 spot!
Happy MR2ing

Ho, yes, that car is really fun to Drive, I've only run it once on track this years and I love it, next year my tire will be brand new and better quality. I have put an hidden hitch on the car, I'm looking for a moto trailer to put on and bring some R compound tire.

For the prop lid, it's solved, I have a gas strut from twosrus.com, but not in picture. And the air filter have been replaced too. Here is the latest picture of the engine bay, this is not taken with my camera, and that one seem to put toyota red more like Orange, but here it is : http://visezleweb.netfirms.com/supra/Supra%20(37).jpg

I've just purchase a used Pioneer Avic-D1 to replace the original car system. goiing to instal it really soon.

On 1/4 miles, I'm a bit disapointing, but i've found some reason. I recently try to perform a nice 1/4 miles, but the clutch need to be stronger (I've use a 5sfe tranny and clutch) for now, I sit on the Mid 14 with some clutch slipping on 3 and 4th gear.

After all, this is the first summer of that car, some adjustments need to be done, to put it on the edge of perfect running, slipping clutch and running too Rich at high RPM.

This engine produce 197HP, I have to fine tune it, because I only get approx 150hp to the wheel, and a rich Air/Fuel ratio. Next summer, this fine tuning will be perform. This car is really insane to drive on track. For the power at the red light, none of the guy who tried have pass me before the end of 3rd gear. My killing list looks like: MazdaSpeed3, civic, Mustang 5.0, Type R, SpecV. But on highway, mazdaspeed and mustang have passed me at around 170km/h. The 5sfe tranny help me for low torque, but on highway, this is not the best gearage.

We want information. Information.....

Details! Details!

Which tranny? A 54? What half shafts? What was easy, what was hard?

Wiring does not freak me out, this looks to be exactly the swap I want to do.

I've used a 5sfe tranny, with is own shaft The swap wasn't perfrom by me, so I didn't know exactly what is goiing hard, but I think the big question was from shaft, and the one from 5sfe Fit, so, everything is fine. Prestone hosing was a kind of hard to figure too.

How do you like the gear ratios?

On that transmission, how do you like the gear ratios?

Quick, too qucik on high way, but, it's ok. Pushing me to repect the law and didn't exceed 115 km/h. Over that speed, my exhaust is too loud for a long ride.

The gear ratio, I love it, make the throttle response incredible !
