You could really benefit from a CMS website system for that book.
Is there a newsletter? |

it's something we might look at further down the line, for now we only offer the printed magazine. We might try out PDF or online reading with one of our back issues once the stock has run out

please dont do pdf, nobody likes a pdf and stay away from the "book flip thing"
online reading is easy to do with the files you have now. I'll pm you some info soon. How about a newsletter? I'd love to receive one |

yeah, i've never really liked the book flip thing really, only other way I'd thought of was PDF, but policing unauthorised copy and distribution would be a problem, so yeah, I'm all open to suggestions, if you have some similar examples, my email is:- steveb@mr2only.com - Never thought of a newsletter but I will look into that too.
Cheers Steve |

We produce an MMA Magazine (and others) and recently sold out to a canadian company, they insisted on the book flip thing.
I argued until I was blue in the face about why this technology has been around for 3-4 years and not one major magazine publication uses it effectively. But they wanted it anyways, dont get me wrong the software is clever and fun at first, but you wont get any hardcore readers using it, especially since you need a screen at least 22" to effectively see the entire page at once. Plus theres just a huge disconnect with the reader, people browse the web a certain way and now you want them to come to your site and re-learn how to browse and read articles. its silly and gimmicky A easy and cheap way to do it is. (I pm'd you a link to some articles from one of our magazine websites posted in this type of format) 1. Take your InDesign file and export to high res PDF. 2. Take the high res PDF and export as high res jpg. This will spit out numbered and title pages in the form of multiple jpgs. 3. Resize the jpgs to 105.7 resolution , resave and post on the web in blog style. resizing to 105.7 keeps the text readable and intact but doesnt create a giant page. now you can put up all of your pages in a normal web browsing format and the file stay around 200-300k in size. There are draw backs though, unless your using a CMS system, you cant search the text or right click copy/paste and search engines wont pick you up. Yes, newsletters are great, you can have a simple sign up script on your site and then a nice html newsletter that goes out to your subscribers. The ones we use are built into our system but you can find free standalone ones on the web like Constant Contact |
