LSD?
Hi i'm new to the board.
I searched around a bit but didn't find the answer i was looking for. I might be picking up a 89 mk1 with the NA 4AGE and i was wondering if it comes with LSD (both tires spin all the time)? Or is there anyway to tell without actually driving the car? Also do you have any tips on things to check for so i don't pick up a lemon. |

I've heard rumors that some late model SCs had LSD as an option.

The reason i asked is cause know that most older rx7s with drum brakes did Not. So i was curious if there was something like that i could look for.

what would it take to upgrade to LSD?
Can i just replace the 3rd member from a 93+ or do you have to swap the the whole thing axles and all? |

Did/do all mk1 sc cars have factory lsd ? this might help, i know it doesnt give too much info though. you could upgrade to an sc box and other parts required (not too sure of everything you will need though).

im sure someone knows about this but they just havent come across the thread yet ive read taht a good wat to test if your car has LSD is to jack up the rear tires so that they are off of the ground and spin them while the car is in neutral if both tires spin then you have LSD

![]() There are a number of aftermarket LSD kits for the Mk1, but I don't think I've heard of one stock. According to this page, there's a Japanese TRD kit that may have gotten installed at the dealership, but it's not stock, per se (and I don't know if a US dealer would ever ship and install a JDM kit). |

actuly my car has an LSD and it is an AW11 88 the best way to find out if you have an LSD is drive on ICE I fund that this winter I was traing to have some fun wan I notes that I will aways give all the Power to the tire that haved the moset traction. if you tray to lift up your car the turn the weels it will act like an open dif. well I thik that what I is a VLSD + if you have the C52 trani you my have an LSD but if you have the C50 gust get rib of it. the C52 trani very simelar to the 4A-GZ.
PS VLSD.s need constent care |

LSD doesnt mean that both wheels spin all the time. that would be more of posi-trac or a locked differential. limited slip means just that, limited slip in the outer turn wheel.

Well, not true. Our cars are balanced pretty well, so you can sometimes leave 2 black marks without LSD. If you only leave 1 black mark, you don't have LSD, but if you leave 2, you may still not have it.
I know you can usually tell the difference if you try to do doughnuts; LSD will do tight circles with the front end moving around a tighter circle than the back, while open diff will do wide circles with the front and rear moving at about the same distance from the center (ie, no LSD=no doughnut). This seems to only work on surfaces with good traction like asphalt though, since an open diff will do doughnuts on dirt just fine. |
