My Google Map

Turbo

I just got a Mitsubishi turbo from a Chrsyler Lebaron T. I believe this is the same turbo off a 1st gen Talon/Eclipse, which only ran 6 psi. I'm just curious as to if this turbo can easily be mounted onto my MK1.

I searched the forums, but haven't really found any write ups for installing a turbo. I did find of course the huge debate on using the 4AGZE over just using the 4AGE, but I'm no where near doing an engine swap yet. I simply got a small turbo and wouldn't mind mounting it off for a small power increase. I plan to use a very small conservative amount of boost, probably like 3+ or so.

How would I go about mounting it up? What needs to be run to the turbo, would I need an intercooler, what type of header do I need to get, boost controller, etc?

I'm heading down this track and what you need is another computer (stand alone cause there is no plug n play computer) For boost control a good blow off valve will do as it will vent excess gas you just got to buy the right spring for it.

There are companies that make manifolds but they can be pricey. you could make one or have one made. My friend made one for a Honda engine and it worked well just using tight mandrel bends and heavy exhaust tube. you don't need an intercooler they just help make more horsepower by cooling the compressed air. At 3 - 6psi they are not a huge necessity.

As for plumbing just use large tube and silicon bends to come back to the tvis. Not sure if removing the tvis butterflies is a good idea or not (something I've been thinking about with my build), all depends on when the boost comes in but with low boost like that it should start to pull from about 3k and top out real quick.

For starters you'll need a turbo manifold and downpipe, an oil supply for the turbo and oil drain line for the turbo along with all the piping from turbo to intake manifold and I recommend you use an intercooler. 3-4 psi should be ok depending on the condition of your engine but you'll also need to retard the timing a couple of degrees and may also need a way to add a little more fuel. Boost controllers allow you to make more boost by restricting the boost pressure reference to the waste gate actuator, you don't need one.

IMO it's gonna be more of a hassle to put the small turbo on and it's gonna run you around the same as getting the swap.

Actually I just decided you don't need stand alone just something like this a greedy e-manage or something will do it but yeah it is a lot of work. I would wait for the swap or put the money and time into building a proper 4agte out of a 4agze.

Yeah, plus running 4 psi won't really be an improvement worth the hassle, unless you got some crazy plans
