WEBER CARBURETOR conversion!!!

As the title says, I am in the process of converting from the gayness called fuel injection to dual sidedraft Weber 40 DCOE's... I have seen waaaay too many AE86's with sidedrafts, but never an MR2. Just wondering if anyone on here has done it.

My main concern right now is ignition. I plan on keeping only the ignitor and dizzy hooked up to the ECU to run ignition. Any input or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

You might look into MSD and other aftermarket ignition systems.

There is a problem with converting the 4ag family tach signals into a format MSD's et. al. can digest. I think there is an obscure converter involved to fix that.

I don't think it can be done that way.... typically it is done via using a starlet dizzy modified to fit on a 4age.... then you can use vacuum advance....

My question is, why shouldn't the ECU run the ignition? Once it cranks, fuel goes in, ignition sparks, it should keep running. All I plan on keeping plugged in is the ignitor and dizzy, I figure the ignition is a completely different system, and all the crap (injectors, maf, misc. sensors) is only there to control the fuel injection. So as long as the engine is getting fuel somehow it should run , i hope. I work at a local shop and we have done similar things. I am just curious if anyone else has done anything like this.
I have everything ready... carbs on manifold w/ linkage, fuel pump installed on car and ran to fusible key on power, new header and exhaust with wideband sensor, and all the misc. bits and pieces. I guess I will just have to find out!
The whole plan was to not have to use expensive MSD parts. I considered using a Starlet dizzy but you have to either modify the head, the dizzy, or make a custom plate to adapt it, and you need to change the drive gear. Plus finding one of those is a challenge in itself!...If it doesn't work, I may just get one of these:

TOYOTA 3SGE 4AGE PERFORMANCE IGNITION:eBay Motors (item 200379031017 end time Sep-09-09 23:44:18 PDT)

it is not a different system.... the ignition advance is all electronic... with it is included the AFM reading, the TPS reading, the 02 reading, coolant air temp reading, air temp reading.... the ignition and fuel are intertwined to add/reduce fuel and timing together to complement one another... you can't have one w/o the other on a stock toyota system.

you could, potentially ditch the entire system then use a megasquirt & edis based system for ignition.....

Like I said, I'm not looking to spend any more money on expensive ignition systems. I have heard of people using the stock dizzy locked out, with no advance. Suppose I may be going that route...

its pretty fantastic...

To be honest, I hate Electronic fuel injection. I work on mechanical FI diesels, and carbureted gas motors at work, but f*** the electronics.. In my opinion, carbs look way cooler, sound amazingly unique (just about makes me nut myself when I hear it), smell awesome too! Also, I can tune them with my handy flat head !

dooooooo it son. Gettin the header and exhaust put on tomorrow. That's gonna be fantastic as well.. runnin true duals brah. I'll have to make a thread when I put the carbs on.

I've done EFI to carb swaps on a lot of older vehicles like bugs and early efi trucks, but all of them were already vacuum advanced dizzies....fook it..
