Aftermarket ignition coil

I know that the accel 8140 coils will directly replace a stock coil for the 4age 16v. I don't have any knowledge about other companies coils that would be similar in form and function. Like would MSD make just a coil that would work? Or perhaps something from another brand. Just wanted to check out my options and see if anyone here has some info.

My Google Map

I wouldn't swap it out....

the blaster 2's have a problem with slowly leaking oil, and losing power.

Also, the blaster 2 isn't quite within the correct ohm range for what the ignitor needs... possibility of the ignitor going bad (and yes, they go bad).

I wouldn't swap the coil out unless you've done some major work. Toyota did their ignition right.... they're strong and they hurt quite a bit when you get shocked by them....

I'm just trying to part out what I dont need. I know it came out of a running car and that's all I'll say about it. I dont know if it was an upgrade or what but the car did run when it was installed.

I've been running a cheap yellow accel coil for years on my N/A... not a single problem and I'm using the stock ignitor. I've got two stock coils and I've got a coil/ignitor listed on ebay right now if anyone needs one.

After considering that the coil was 21 years old in my car anyhow i just went ahead and picked up the Accel 8140 for $30 from a local store. They actually didn't have the yellow one. And i didn't want to wait a day for it to be shipped. So i splurged the extra three bucks and got the 8140c which is chrome...

You all said it felt more crisp and haven't had any issues with it messing up the ignition system at all and it costs as much as a similar OEM type replacement anyhow. (Note: similar to oem type, i do not know the cost of a true Toyota OEM coil.)

It definitely does rev/run smoother than it did before and feels slightly beefier above 6k rpms. Though a coil that wasn't old enough to drink would probably feel better than what i had anyhow... worth every penny so far.

As stated before it was way easy to install. Just keep note of where everything goes in relation to it and that you don't mix up the positive and negative wires. I put a small piece of black electrical tape on the negative just in case i got them mixed up.

Thanks for the info everyone.
