Thumbs up Steering Wheel

Hello

Has anyone swapped out their steering wheel?
Aside from no airbag, any regrets?

I found a smaller grant gt one I like, with 91 MKII kit.

I have looked over the bgb stuff on it.

I don't like airbags, so that's not a big deal to me. You will lose your cruise control and will have to do some modification to get your horn to work. Otherwise, I like having a different wheel.

You were right about the horn.

I guess a toggle switch, or push button mounted somewhere will work well enough to pass inspection.

Can't find any threads on how to get the airbag light off, aside from pulling the bulb out?

I bet there's a way you could wire in a resistor or something so it thinks it's still there.

you shouldnt have any problems at all with your horn. wire it up as best you can, and let the ground wire drag loosely to ground.. leave it pretty long and strip it back really far to get a good ground. sure its not ideal, but a horn is a good piece of safety equipment.

besides that, i love the aftermarket wheel! has a good feel. with a ps car you can go pretty small too.

If you do decide to go with an aftermarket wheel, I could use your center pad on your existing wheel. Just PM me if you would.

I really like my after market steering wheel. It's an Isotta 320mm I got on ebay and I am using a modified Momo hub. After having my airbag go off in a low speed collision and having it scrape me up me up worse then the accident could have, I decided I am safer without it. I also got the horn and cruise working with a little grinding, cutting and bailing wire. 320mm is about the smallest I would go because smaller ones make it difficult to see all your gauges at once.

Here's a pic of mine:

god damnit man, that looks sweet. Hopefully Adam (bugalu) will throw his up on here as well, I LOVE the look of his, but I love your guages and how all your cruise stuff works.

When can I come see/feel this? I wanna see how it drives with it and see your setup first hand....

If you would like to correctly reset your airbag lite, Here is a write up I saved. Takes a bit of DIY electronic work but im sure someone can appreciate it.

While that is a good write-up, it won't do anything to help get rid of the light when you no longer have an airbag.

Well to start with, the Momo hub was too thick and pushed into the "clock spring" (that's the adapter that has wires coiled up in it so you can turn the wheel and still have connection) so I had to grind about 1/8" off the flat par of the hub to get my steering wheel to turn freely with it in place. Then I cut the plastic around the connector of the clock spring so it would fit through the hole in the Momo hub. With that done I could just plug the connector in for the horn and cruise. The cruise control lever is just wire tied into the hub and I cut a slit in the cover for it to go through. Pictures would do a better job so next time I have the steering wheel off I will try to take some.

You mean the airbag? Mine deployed so it has a great big hole in it.
