Trans ?

This is my first post. I have found this forum very informative so far. But I have one question that I have not been able to find the answer for. I currently have a 91 with the 5SFE with 5-speed. I am currently in the process of replacing the engine with another 5SFE from a 91 Celica. My question is: my transmission is starting to grind badly, the Celica also has a 5-speed and I am wondering if i can use that transmission instead of rebuilding my current one. Thanks in advance.

rebuild yr current one. take it apart and see what's bad and replace it. the case is different with respect to the shifter assembly.

Or you could swap the casing.

With the amount of work involved though it makes more sense to replace stuff then put worn used parts back in. Not only that, but the final drive ratio in the celica tranny is a little taller. Means you won't be quite as quick off the line.

the question is really the trans mount position...? line the two trans up and check the mount position...

you could rebuild it... grinding is usually always a syncro problem aslong as your clutching teeth on the gears having been chewed up too much by grind driving that usually a simple rebuild along w/ detent springs and balls and of course gaskets.

switching cases is tricky but extremely possible too. alot trans use same set up just different gear ratios and bell housings... but since that trans bolts to the 5s-fe i'd imagine a input/output and counter shaft swap might work
