Starter problem
Ok...my car isn't starting and i was wondering if any of you guys could suggest what might be wrong before i break down and take it to a shop. My car had electrical problems. I have a ground wire that completely got fried. It started to ground out on my rear passenger side brake cable. I fixed the brake cable and put two 4 gauge ground wires as well as a new starter because i think i fried my old one. Now that all this new stuff is installed, I would think that it would start. But no...it does a single click then nothing. I changed the relay. Same problem. I am stumped...any suggestions? I am pretty sure the starter is installed correctly..it fit right in with little problems. The only thing I can think of that might be the problem is that all 3 of the cables are on the single terminal and maybe the order that they need to be in isn't right..(if that matters at all)

Thought i would add this as well, although i don't think i will like the outcome if it is what i think it is....when me and my buddy tried to push it forward to see if maybe we could pop the clutch, it was very very hard to push with the both of us...i am not sure if this is because of the starter not being in right, or if my brake cable is not on correctly...or even worse..maybe my engine siezed? i am hoping it's not the last one..but i don't see how it could be as the engine was working fine right before i had all these electrical problems...

man, i would just start tracing relays and wires to see if they are broken. Check all your fuses too, it doesn't hurt.

pull the starter off, but leave it hooked up(with battery disconnected) then hook the battery up after you make sure the starter wont ground out on anything. then have someone try to start the car while you watch the starter. it should move over and spin at the same time. when you stop cranking it should move back to its original spot and stop spinning.
if that works put some shims between the starter and trans. it wont take alot. doing this would save alot of time so you dont have to trace wires and relays. on my starer (92 na) it has a spot where 3 wires go and it also has a clip towards the firewall i think for one small wire with a brown clip. make sure that is hooked up also. and last thing.... one of the wires going to the starter is a fusable link wire. i think it is white with a blue tracer, it is possible that the wire would need replaced since you did have an electrical problem and the wire is fusable link. hope that helps |

Well...I found out what was wrong with the car. I can't say that i'm happy with what i found out. My engine seized up on me. I was planning on doing a swap for a turbo engine anyways..but not i am forced to do it pre-maturely. If anyone can suggest a good place to find an engine at for me, let me know. Also...how much should I have saved for the cost of the engine and the cost of the install on it? A good price wouldn't hurt since i don't exactly have the greatest amount of cash saved...but at the same time, i don't want a bad engine that is just going to give me more problems again down the road. Let me know what you can do for me guys.
