No, it's not.

I haven't looked at the radiator in the Mk 2 yet. Can anyone tell us if there's a fan behind the radiator? If not, what sensor would cause this light to come on?

2 fans behind MKII radiator, it also has a couple of sensor one being watertemp and it probably means a bad fan or something.

Thats the indicator for the engine bay cooling fan. Check that your engine bay temp sensor on the inside of your engine lid is connected correctly or that if connected it is functioning correctly.

Did engine bay cooling fans show up in 93-95 models of MR2? There is not one in 91 or 92.

Are you sure about that...by engine bay cooling fan I am on about the fan in the right-hand engine bay intake. On NA cars this is used to cool the engine bay and on Turbo cars it is used to cool the intercooler. Either way the warning lamp is an over temperature for it. I thought all MR2's have this fan...my bad if they don't in the states...all MR2's in the UK have this fan.

if its a turbo its the intercooler fan, i have the same problem on mine. some how the wire to the IC fan shorted out so i had to splice it to a wire that isn't constant and only gets juice when the motor is cranked/the key is in the on position.

Thanks
Mine came on when the fan control computer went out. (located int he trunk next to the ECU)

I disconnected the little box and now the fans run anytime the key is in the on position. If you drive in cold conditions, this may not be ideal, but it is an easy way to check to see if the problem is the controller or a sensor/wiring problem.
