The 3sge swap is pretty easy. The best thing to do is get a swap set from an Mr2 that comes with a complete engine harness. You don't need any other harnesses from the 3sge sw20.
You can make a celica motor and harness work. The main problem is that the engine harness will not plug up. It can be modded to work, but mr2 and celica swap sets are comparably priced, so why bother. |

Swap sets are the package deals where the importer gives you a motor, ecu, wiring harness, sensors, coil/igniter, and usually a transmission. In the case of the 3sge, the most important of these items is the wiring harness as you 5sfe harness is absolutely not compatible.
If you buy a celica set, when you go to plug the celica engine harness into the mr2 body harness, nothing will be compatible. The celica engine harness can be rewired to work with the mr2 body harness, but not without difficulty. There are also a few other issues with putting the celica 3sge into the mr2. For example, you'll have to get a sw20 3sg(t)e water outlet housing. Celica and mr2 swap sets are about the same price, so you're better off getting the one that you'll have the least trouble with. |

The 5s map sensor works, the 5s igniter will work. You might have to get a 91 turbo coil, or a 93+ turbo distributor cap. This will just depend on what year 3sge you get.
The only other thing that gives people problems is the body harness plug to the ecu. You do have to attach a different plug to the 5s body harness. Its about 10-15 wires you have to change. I've considered making an adapter for this. With a mr2 3sge swap set, this is a pretty easy swap. To make it easy, its critical that you get an uncut 3sge engine harness Last edited by mr220v; 01-06-2007 at 10:04 AM. |
