Cheap Intake. Sucking sound or plain sucks.
I'd save your money, unless you really want to hear a loud sucking sound. I have one and believe the hp increase claim is a hoax.

only TomsMR2's intake actually made HP, other than that the best filter is Apexi, if anyone can post the years and models the GSR intake works for that would be great.

If you're just looking for more sound you can pretty much toss whatever you want on there. Most intakes have shown to minimal impact on power and some even hurt power. Mostly what you're going to accomplish by putting on an intake is get more attention.

if you want real cheap try a filter from a parts store like auto zone with a shrot tube made from exhaust pipe total about $15. that is what the ricer guys have been doing around here.

I just took all the air box and crap out, and went to an exhaust place that didn't look busy. They knocked me up a pipe for $10. It was about 2 foot long, with a hole for the air intake sensor and an offshoot pipe for something else that was attached to the original stuff (idle bypass? map sensor? dunno)

Don't trust intake vendors who point to dyno evidence. I can easily get a dyno to read 2-3 more hp without doing anything. There's one simple test to do here: Run the car at WOT with a pressure gauge hooked to the manifold. If your manifold pressure remains the same with and without the intake, then it's doing absolutely nothing for you.
Another test would be slightly pre-throttle body pressure, although in this configuration, you won't measure intake velocity effects. |

If your manifold pressure is atmosphere at WOT, then there are no more gains to be made (without turbo). If you've got vacuum (negative pressure/less than atmo), then you have restrictions in your intake. I get atmo from at least 3000rpm and up, at WOT. It's possible that a better intake would get there earlier, but it's too low to make any difference. |

You have to measure at peak power RPM. Above peak power doesn't do any good.
You might need some pretty good resolution for this test. A simple boost gauge might not get you there. A high-grade mechanic's vacuum gauge or a sensitive home-made manometer will do the trick. |
