I am glad that there are people who experiment on the board with all the motors in the mr2 and prove that there is more than one way for mr2's to go fast. but the general consensus is the cost of a turbokit for a 5sfe, will only creat as muhc power as a stock 3sgte, and itd be cheaper and better in the end to use a 3sgte.
With all those factory 3sgte parts needed for the kit install, may as well get the stronger block and way better flowing 3sgte head. But I dont want to sound like im dissing on you 5sfe tuners its nice to have members that think outside the box. |

I have heard between $1200 and $1800 for a basic turbo setup that you piece together yourself. Basically picking up parts a little at a time, waiting for the right price for a part and stuff.
This price though is with stock parts from a 3S-GTE engine. the turbo and MSD controller being the biggest part of that money. |

find mannys CT27 5sfte dyno. imo, thats a perfect reason to turbo a 5sfe and not swap. it outputs torque fantastically. it doesnt make a ton of horsepower, but sometimes thats not that important. its absolutely NOT for everyone, and not really cheaper. but theres specific advantages. just know whats all involved in making a 5sfte, and making it run properly. most people unfortunately do it as a cheap cop-out, and then bash it when it blows up because they skimped on parts.

this happens a lot, the biggest thing that i have heard is people skimming on the MSD box or buying a turbo that they new from the beginning might be bad (IE 150,XXX miles on it). |

I've been meaning to update that page for a while.
The information is all accurate but there is so much more that I need to add to it. You will probably want to reference the original so that you have the most up to date version. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/mr2/Turbo5sfe.html I will be expanding in over the next little while.I have seen them done anywhere from $600-2000 for the basic ct-26 setup. It really depends on what kind of deals you can get for the parts. If you decide to go this route, do your research and learn how it all works because you will be your own mechanic. Do a search of the boards and read everything you can about the 5sfte. Start with a working, well maintained engine and make sure you do it right from the start. So many setups have failed because of stupid things like oil leaks or people thinking that they can mix and match turbos and injectors without tuning or neglect the timing aspect of it. A 5sfte is definitely cheaper then a 3sgte swap but you will not have most of the engine safety features that come with a 3sgte and you are on your own for support in most cases. The people on the boards will be your best source for troubleshooting problems. It is also a great learning experience. ![]() Last thing... have a spare car just in case you run into problems. |

yup. use the MSD box, and use the 360cc injectors and 3bar map sensor. no RRFPR's or bleed off valves on the stock map!

Any thoughts on the fuel pump? Is the pump that comes with an NA MR2 sufficient?

came stock.. probably. the stock one thats still in there 15 years later, probably not. the walbro pumps are about 90 bucks, its fairly cheap insurance. its been proven to not be sufficient for 3sgte swaps, so i dont know if id risk it.

Think a 195 would be sufficient or is a 255 needed?

Does anyone have a link or something that shows the numbers on the CT27 5SFTE because i'm kind of interested to see what kind of numbers it is throwing around?

I may be dreaming a little here but would a disco Potatoe be well suited for that engine? With all the torque it makes down low that should carry you to a good 2500K spool up and the turbo is good up to the redline i bet.

The turbo would be awesome on a 5sfe but you are going to need bigger injectors and a way to tune it. You have to realize that the only reason the 5sfe ECU/315cc injectors/2 bar MAP works with the ct-26 is that the ct-26 become a restriction at higher RPMs and that keeps the mixture from going lean. |
