Swap price?
How much would you expect to pay for a 3SGE swap? I have a 92 w/ a 5S.
Thanks |

800-1000? Is that a shop estimate or for doing the work yourself?

I came in under $1000 for sure when I did mine and thats with absolutely everything accounted for. I didn't get any super cheap deals either. I'm sure you could find a way to turn it into a $2000 ordeal though.
I also did my beams 3sge swap for $1500, so I guess i'm pretty good a pulling this stuff off for cheap. |

I would expect the swap to cost a bit over $2000 if you had it done from start to finish. Cheaper if you just had a place put a motor in for you and you finished it. |

![]() But seriously, if I could find a deal like that I would go Beams. But the only inexpensive Beams I could fine are automatic. Could you bolt it to another tranny? Let me know where go get either for cheep. I'm in the market for a swap. |

Beams motors are not all that rare. They were a rare option in the mr2, but pretty common in the celica, rav4, caldina, and altezza. There are some small differences to be surmounted, but nothing too terrible. I just reused my original mr2 transmission which has the same final drive as the beams, though I don't know if the ratios are the same.
My biggest issue was finding an ecu at a reasonble price. Toysport wanted $450 for a 3sge MT ecu. I would suspect that the AT ecu would be more common and cheaper, though I don't know for sure that they are easily interchangeable. I bought one from a guy in Jamaica. $250 shipped. I have a lot of Jamaican customers here at my day job. Some of them work on cars. I've considered asking them if they could pick up a few when they go down there. I got my motor for $900 with a celica transmission. It came with a cut wiring harness. Wiring a cut engine harness would kick most people's butts. I made a harness based off of my 5sfe engine harness and the cut beams harness. It works very well, and runs code free. My main objective with this swap was to get experience wiring the beams 3sge into the mr2. I plan on offering a conversion harness for this swap similar to the one I offer for the 4age 20v into the mk1. I'm sure people won't be able to duplicate $1500 without doing the wiring themselves, but I'm sure that a price of $2000-$2500 is possible. That would make doing a beams swap competetive with a gen2 turbo swap. |

By 'original MR2 tranny' do you mean the one for the 5S?
