you'll probably want to replace the dust boots with 93 dust boots.. chances are yours are completely shredded.
when you're in there, check everything that moves for freeplay. theres a good chance you'll need ball joints, and inner/outer tie rod ends as well. |

The strut is primarily comprised of strut tube, dampers, springs, and strut top mounts. If you got new "struts" then you probably either got new cartridge dampers, or you got one of the few available strut assemblies that combines the strut tubes and the dampers. In either case, you should be good on the damper front.
Ben, probably means strut top mounts. If you have, or get, OE strut mounts there is a little foam gasket that sits on top of 'em to protect the bearing that you'll also want to replace. The KYB strut mounts are sealed and don't need this gasket.

The bearings are in the strut top mounts. You can get KYB strut top mounts from tirerack.com and probably elsewhere. They cost marginally less than the OE replacement ones from the stealership last time I checked. I haven't price checked the auto parts stores lately so I don't know what they've got to offer.
If you use the OE replacements from the stealerships you will need the dust cover. KYB doesn't make struts, they do make dampers though. These are completely seperate from the stut top mounts and have nothing to do with the gasket. |

Well, I am looking at replacing a lot of the suspension parts in the car I just bought. I am doing the inner ti-rods and bellows, but I will be replacing sway bar bushings and strut mounts. I found the strut mounts (tops) at autozone for ~$52. Bushings, I found some "Prothane" bushing set for ~$90 on ebay and other various sites. These bushings are easy DIY replacements I think (anyone feel free to correct me on this, I haven't done it yet and I looking in the book, it doesn't seem to bad).
I wouldn't think that the strut mounts would be to hard either, though you may have to get a few "special tools" to removed the struts from the car to get at the mount. Some other "fun" upgrades would be torsion bars (strut tower braces). I don't think these should be very expensive. Last edited by goddom; 04-12-2007 at 09:35 PM. |

No, you don't need any special tools to remove the struts from the car short of a spring compressor. There are some really good write ups on how to do this available.
Strut tower braces do make a wonderful difference in our cars. |
