Only 5 Days...Already on the Tow truck
So I've had my car for about five days now, and already it's on the tow truck- so typical. It was overheating like crazy, and I'm scared that a bearing has spun. Any advice on distinguishing a spun bearing sound apart from loud valves? Can't hear it at idle, and it kinda smooths out in 4th and 5th gear above 3krpm. It's like a rattling sound. Running on three cylinders and running bad too, I'm kinda surprised that this is all hitting me at the same time. Car ran pretty good when I took it on Monday. I'm awaiting my mechanic's word after this weekend on what's going on. Car's got 172k on it...any takers on likely culprits? Spun bearing? Need headwork? Should I be looking for another motor already? Goodness.

to answer the question, a rod knocking can fade out in higher rpm's to whre you can't hear it. what you describe is classic rod knock.
chassis codes, well i have seen 21 being a turbo and a non turbo, not too sure what toyota was thinking with that one. i have owned both non and turbo with 21 chassis code. and yes, the original motors were in them. |
