'93 NA Speedo/Tach
I bought my '93 last October, and at that time the tach did not work. About a few days ago, the speedo quit. I found a company in CA who will check out, and repair, the instrument cluster if necessary for a decent price, but I was wondering if there was anything else I can check/do before getting that far into this. I don't really mind the speedo gone, but I do need the tach, and it is time to take care of these little problems, as only this and some suspension updates will make the little car perfect.
My earlier MK1s had a mechanical cable for the speedo and the car was much easier to find stuff inside the engine bay. This car, although a much nicer car, appears to be harder to locate and repair little items like this, even more so than my '88 SC. Supposedly this speedo is not mechanical, but electrical?? Oh, the cruise control does not work since the failure of the speedo, so I'm assuming the problem would be prior to the cc. Thanks, Rick (rvicke) |

The speed sensor for '93+ is electrial NOT mechanical. The CC system has it's own ECU etc so it may not be related. You might want to start trouble shooting your CC issue by checking fuses and relays.
