1993 Toyota MR2 $3000 GOOD DEAL??
I found a 1993 Toyota MR2 for $3000.
Goods: -new timing belt -new altonator -new rear axles -T-top! -intake header -dual exhaust -hid's Bads: -Needs some body work... The body kit put on it was POORLY done. -Needs new paint -A/C doesn't work -E-brake doesn't work -not turbo I've been wanting an MR2 for some time now and when I saw this car I thought it was a good buy but I brought my dad along and he said it was only worth $2500. So is this car a good deal?? Was my dad wrong about saying this car was only worth $2500?? |

Most 1993 MR2's run roughly from $6000 to $9,000
go here, and look at the prices that people sell them for..... www.mr2trader.com and http://www.mr2board.com/forums/mk-2-cars/

Your thread title sounds like a good deal but if you're looking at body work + paint and then some brake work thrown in, well, that could add up to quite a bit. A/C is also not cheap, believe me. Sounds like this is a $5,000+ car to me.

Oh yeah you reminded me... It does need new brake pads but that won't cost too much right?

Eh, brakes usually cost around $200 bucks to have replaced at a meineke or similiar brake shop.
I think it will be a good deal, but if you have it painted, a paint job can run anywhere from $2000 to $3500 depending on the shop. |

Hmmm, not sure about that one either.
------------------------------------------------------------------ Description 1991' MR2 T-top, N/A, Red, Manual, 122200 miles, clutch is worned, Need some minor work. Price: $ 2,500.00 USD ------------------------------------------------------------------ Despite the bad grammar, 'minor' is a relative term - how good are you w/ repairs? Can't you up your price limit another grand or so? You'll get a much better car. |

The 93 for $3k sounds pretty good to me. You don't need nice paint, A/C, great body kit just for the car to run. If they have proof of all the things they did and the car runs nice, go for it! You can fix the rest at your own pace, little by little......

Word of Advice, Make sure you do the deal in person, no over the phone stuff, or mailing of the money and whatnot. Hand him the cash in person, as he is handing you the signed title.

That would be a perfect deal for me...most of my friends are mechanics and an ex-girlfriend who's father painted an award winning Veilside NSX showcar and would definitely cut me some kind of deal...buy it and sell it to me for the same price

You don't need the ebrake fixed, you can do that later, just watch where you park. You also don't NEED the a/c IMO get it fixed when you can.
You listed HIDs as plus but judging by the exterior description I'm guessing they are cheap HIDs or something. Find some pre painted body panels for sale and replace the body kit back to stock. If you found it for $3000 you can probably talk them down to $2,800 but 3K sounds pretty good. Get us some pictures of the car, exterior, interior and engine bay.

That's where I found the car... It is owned by some kid... His dad and my dad are on good terms so he said he would lower it to 3k for me. In the pictures the car looks clean on the outside but up close you can notice all the flaws in the body work. So what do you guys think about it?? |

Doesn't look bad at all. What do you mean by flaws? For 3k I think I would scoop that up.

The only thing I can see from the pics is that the front and rear bumpers don't line up on the passenger side but I'm sure you could fix that yourself...
And as for paint, it could be a lot worse. A good wax probably would carry you through as well as getting that AC recharged...that's why it's a project car and not a brand new car. Take the good with the bad. But it looks great for 3K compared to other 93s for the price |

I just bought a 1991 n/a t-top for $3000.
I was not going to buy it, but then I saw it and jumped all over it. The car looks like it just rolled off the production. The interior is mint....too bad it's blue. The paint has some chips but no major dings and wont have to be repainted or body work. If you are buying the car as a project, or the car as a daily then what you're looking for will change. If you are going to swap a turbo motor or something else into it then maybe get a cheaper car with motor problems. One thing to take into consideration is body work. Don't just think oh I can buy this car for $3000 and then put a turbo motor in it and be set. Remember like someone said before that bodywork/paint can be well over $1000 and up to $2500 easily. Everything else can be replaced easily such as brakes, suspension, bushings, anything you would think a 10+ year old car may need. Good luck! |
