aluminum intake polishing
Any of you guys know of a good person to do aluminum polishing on my intake manifold? It is so damned hard to keep that rough surface clean of grease and dirt. There are a lot of people out there, but I hesitate to send something like that out without a few references on them. Thanks to all.

www.koracing.net offers a polishing service. I believe they can also have it cermachromed, but you will have to ask them.
here is there forum on this board. http://www.mr2board.com/forums/ko-racing/ And I highly recommend them.

A few members have polished their own stuff, you can do this pretty easily if you have the time. Try contacting Tred on this board for suggestions, here are some pictures of his hand polished stuff.

If you want to do it yourself by hand, here's how i'm going about mine: Stage 1: Rough grit, I used 220, to smooth out the rough casting. Also you'll need a small file to shape and mold the plenum of it's odd curves and bulges. Stage 2: Step up to a slightly hgher grit (300-330), same thing...you're further smoothening the casting. Stage 3: Step up even higher, ~400 grit. Make sure that all the scratches you made with previous grits are scratched over again with each step up. Stage 4: I usually step up a bit higher to ~600-800. Stage 5: Even higher to about 1000. Stage 6: 2000 grit. Then get some metal polish (I use mothers metal polish) and start buffing away. Note that 400 is about as high as you'll go for dry sanding, from 400+ you'll need to wetsand. |

I'd agree with PHOENIX, KO Racing is the way to go on this.
