help on fixing ac
i have a 91 mr2 NA and the AC is not blowing cold air. as a matter of fact its just air (and yes, my ac button is on). i was just thinking maybe it only needs to be recharge. but i look at the refrigerant type and it needs R-12? and most of the refills they sell at auto store is R-134. can anyone give me an estimate of how much is it going to be if i bring it on a shop and ask them to recharge it for me. thank you very much

converting
do you know how much will it cost to have it converted to r-134? i heard that only qualified people can get r-12. that is why it is not something all people can get their hands on. r-134 is a lot more safer than r-12. or if i get it charged by r-12, do you know how much will it cost?

R-12 is something retarded like $100 a lb.
R-134 you can get at the store, some come with a nozzle, its about 10-12 bucks for a can. You can do it yourself pretty easy. They say you need to "flush" the system before you put the 134 in, but I'm pretty sure thats BS. Its under high pressure and will let itself out. Yes its illegal to let it out in the air but no one will know. No you shouldn't breath it. You'll also need an R-134 conversion kit which is basically new nozzles that fit over your existing ones; under 10 bucks. If it stops working the first time you use it, you have a leak somewhere. |

you should change your drier too, but you dont have to. its only 30 bucks so id recommend doing so. its also a good idea to change the orings. you'll need the conversion oil as well.
besides that, yeah its really just 2 fittings. id recommend NOT getting the conversion kits because ive never seen one yet that didnt contain sealer (you can buy all the pieces separate). you dont want/need sealer crap gumming up your system. |
