On that note, a buddy of mine actually takes off his whole exhaust system a few days before he does emissions, gets the test, with his factory system, then bolts the catless huge diameter exhaust back on after he passes.... we have the free time to do that, though.

nope! the 3sge header is better, it makes more power. i was surprised how great that 3sge header came out.. its fantastic. the camry header is in second place. if you place the 2-1 merge close enough to the header (i tried both ways) the 3sge header just rocks! its equal length, has the right diameter primaries. i think thats where ssac fails big time, the primaries are huge, the collector is huge, the piping is huge. you're spot on about the ssac, but the 3sge is sized correctly.

the stock 5sfe mr2 manifold looks like the exit flange was an afterthough, it sits about 1/2 inch off center and basically blocks off flow, leaving a tiny little spot for exhaust to bend around and get clogged up. its a huge restriction.. the camry manifold is nice smooth steel with a fully unrestricted exit flange. its not equal length, but it looks like cyl 1 is 1/4th the length of cyl4, and cyl2 is 2/4th the length of cyl 4, cyl3 is 3/4th the length, etc.. making it sort of a tuned length in a way.. sort of. i shouldnt have made so much negative speculation about it, its actually performing really well! its unfortunate its such a fab job to make it decent.

its uh.... "smog legal" because theres a factory heatshield that covers it up ok fine its technically not smog legal but it looks 100% factory and id be sort of surprised if an inspector popped you on it.. where as the ssac and other aftermarket headers are blatantly illegal. i have a large obd2 cat on my bpipe, so it'll pass "strict" california emissions without blinking.
